It is important to learn from mistakes-Gianluca Zambrotta

The Italian arrived for his post-match press conference after a 1-1 draw with visitors FC Pune City…

Pune had taken a surprise lead through Spaniard Tato, despite Delhi dominating much of the game. Milan Singh, then equalised indirectly from a free-kick in the second half to secure a point for his team. Speaking on the draw, Zambrotta said, “We were prepared for the match in a very good way. Today if you see the match, we totally dominated the match. Today, we created 5-6 very clear opportunities but unfortunately we didn’t win. But, this is football.

Delhi, though, have not won since their opening game win over Chennaiyin. “Sometimes you are lucky but the last match and this, we were not lucky. During the week, we have to work stronger than before in order to take the opportunities for the goal.”

He continued, “In football sometimes this happens. It’s normal. But we have to asses. Like in Kolkata, we had a penalty chance but didn’t take it and they scored and won. Today, the same. In minute 47, we had a distraction in defence and they scored. It was very strange to realise that we were losing. It was not just a distraction about the defence, it was the whole team (that was distracted).”

“It is important to learn from these because we are playing good but unfortunately (we haven’t won).”

The Italian coach was asked about his players and their respective performances. Talking about Shuovik Chakraborty first, the stalwart said, “When we started training with the Delhi Dynamos, Shouvik always played as a defender. But you’re right, he can play as a midfielder very well (too) but at the moment he is still playing in defence and he is very satisfied with his position.”

Gadze, who has headed Delhi’s attack so far, was off his mark today. The former Inter man believes that the striker remains a key member of the starting XI. “Gadze is very important for the team. He is having a good tournament. Of course he has to complete some opportunities that he creates. That can help him get much better, if he scores.”

One player who was very much on his mark today was Indian Milan Singh. The coach had reserved praise for the youngster. “We are happy about Milan. He is young and has a lot of promise in Indian football. He has a big margin to getting better as he is young. You can do that better with hard work, something that Milan can do.”
