The Goan coach has no issues about tight fixtures...

After a stunning performance against Bengaluru FC where they came from behind to beat thereigning champions 2-1 in the last match, Churchill Brothers will look for three more points when they take on Minerva Punjab in the I-League match at Guru Nanak Stadium tomorrow.

Minerva has lost their last for matches, two of them with a huge margin of 4-0 and 5-0, but Churchill coach Alfred Fernandes is not taking them lightly and is expecting a very tough match tomorrow.

“All the teams are equal now. So Minerva might be coming from a defeat, but on any given day they can damage to any team. Tomorrow will be a new day, so they can be dangerous to us. For me it will be a very tough match,” Alfred said

Though Churchill shocked title favourites Bengaluru in the last match, it came into more limelight due to the fight between Churchill coach Alfred and Bengaluru defender john Johnson where the defender pushed the Goan coach on the field. Later, Bengaluru boss Albert Roca claimed that the Goan coach kicked his player but Alfred said that the incident will not affect him or the team in any way.

“The incident that happened in the last match against Bengaluru FC is out of our system now. Though it was bad for football, we are done with that now. It will not make any differences to my morale for this match nor will it affect the team’s performance,” The 50-year old explained.

Fernandes gave a first start to Surabuddin Mollick in the absence of Seriton Fernandes and the winger who was playing his first match of the season made it difficult for Bengaluru defenders to stop him. The 24-year old was brilliant with his footwork on the wings and made sure that every run on the flank ends up with a cross in the box. The head coach Fernandes was impressed with him and said, “Surabuddin was excellent in the last match. I gave him some responsibilities and he nicely performed them. He was really impressive on the wings. He will surely start tomorrow,”

Churchill Brothers are playing their next four matches away and the tight fixture list does not give the players time to recover from the matches. However, Fernandes does not have any complaints about it.

“At the end of the day we cannot complain about it (fixtures of the league) because every team has the same type of fixtures. So it will be an equal chance for every team. The only worry for me is players' fitness. They will get less time to recover and that is where it can go wrong with the team,” he signed off.
