The Aizawl manager was disappointed after defeat against Bako Chennai City...
Marcos Vinicius and Charles de Souza scored for the hosts as Aizawl’s celebrated backline had an off day. The Mumbai-born coach admitted that his team selection backfired before mourning the missed chances in front of Abhra Mondal’s goal. Keen not to criticize his players for the defensive mishaps publicly, he stated that they had to work hard going forward.
“I switched the positions of some players, but it did not click,” stated the 39-year-old. “We conceded two silly goals. It was our mistake. The first goal we conceded came off a silly mistake; you can say that about the second goal as well. There was a lack of concentration. The first half was okay as it ended goalless. We were unlucky in the second half as we missed many chances and conceded soft goals. I think [my players underperformed in the first half] because of a lack of concentration and thinking that [their moment] will come. We have to work hard.”
Despite the defeat, Aizawl sit third, just three points behind league leaders Mohun Bagan. He stated he was happy to haul three points from two away games, against Mumbai and Chennai; his side emerged 1-0 victors at Cooperage Ground against his former side.
“Overall, I am happy. We have got three points in two away matches. [There’s] still a long way to go. It’s very difficult to play away from home, especially in this weather. We played good in the last four matches. We have conceded more than one only in this match. We should forget about this game and think about the next game,” concluded the I-League veteran.
Aizawl welcome seventh-placed DSK Shivajians on Wednesday afternoon to Rajiv Gandhi Stadium as they look to bounce back quickly.
