Salah elated after 50th Premier League goal as Liverpool go top of table

The Egyptian broke his nine game goalless streak on Friday night.

Liverpool came from behind in their win against Southampton at the St. Marys as Mohamed Salah ended his goal drought by scoring a crucial goal in their 1-3 win over the Saints which also saw them leapfrog Manchester City to the top of Premier League table.

With this goal, Mohamed Salah not only broke his duck also reached the milestone of 50 Premier League goals. The Reds had a tough start but came back with a Naby Keita equaliser before Salah stepped in to take the lead on the 80th minute as Henderson's goal late on was a proper icing on the cake for Jurgen Klopp's men.

However, Salah considers the goals to be special, as it brought an end to his infamous spell of nine games when he went without scoring. It was a great individual effort from the Egyptian as he dribbled past the Southampton defence before curling it past Angus Gunn.

"After nine games [without scoring], I'm very happy to score a goal to help the team," the Egypt international told Sky Sports. "That's the most important thing for us."

The Egyptian also had options on the run as Roberto Firmino had made himself free on the left, but when he was asked about ever thinking of passing it to him , he retaliated: "Not at all!

"I think as a striker you need to score. Always, I'm thinking to score," Salah said.

"I just took my decision to shoot the ball and score. I'm happy about it," he added.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp certainly feels the same as he was all praises on the Egyptian's performance on the night and especially on the goal he scored late on.

"Mo Salah could not pass for his goal," Klopp said in a post-match news conference. "Go, go, go, and a world-class finish."

Salah is with 18 league goals currently on behind of Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero in the fight for the golden boot this season.

"As a striker, you have chances and each striker is a human being -- maybe you have better moments and less good moments," Klopp said of Salah. "But he is pretty consistent, his physical things are always there. He always stayed calm to deal with the situation."

The Reds werent their best on the night as they were evidently shaky at the back which allowed Shane Long to get an early goal for the hosts. However Klopp was happy with how his team fought back into the game and ended up with all three points.

"The performance was not top level, but it is about fighting," Klopp said. "People want us to play like Manchester City. We are unable to do that. We play our own football.

"We have 82 points now. That is massive in this crazy league and everyone is waiting for us. I am really proud. It is incredible."

Things changed after club captain Jordan Henderson replaced Wijnaldum on the pitch, as his calming presence in midfield changed the course of the game. He also came up with the final goal in the game to put the game out of bounds of the Saints.

"It was very big. Every game is massive. We've got to win every game. I thought we showed great character in the first half," Henderson told Sky Sports. "It was a big performance in the second half and a big result."
