The Norweigian also believes that the pressure will be on Jurgen Klopp.

This is the first time Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will face Liverpool as a manager and just hours before kickoff of one of the biggest fixtures in the Premier League, the Norwegian enjoyed a light banter.

Solskjaer claimed that he has heard a lot of things from his friends back in Norway who are Liverpool fans. He said, "I have loads of Liverpool fans back home and it has been like every year is going to be their year. It has got to October and it's 'OK, next year'."

It has been an age-old joke which is aimed at Liverpool fans as every year they start their campaign with high hopes but eventually fail to lift the title. The league drought has been 29 years long and Manchester United have won 12 championships in the meantime. The season starts with a lot of promise for the club from Merseyside but eventually they fail to hold on to that momentum and Solksjaer pointed that out, with a sly dig at the club.

However, things are turning out differently this season for the Reds as they reach Old Trafford with an intention to take home all three points. A win will take them three points clear off Manchester City right on top of the table with 11 matches to go.

"Now they are in the race so now for them it is going to be an exciting finish to the league now they are in it," Solskjaer added.

"That is none of our concern. We just have to concentrate on ourselves."

There have been signs of nerves getting the better of the player in recent times as the Reds have blown up a commanding lead over Pep Guardiola's men. So it is a very important fixture for both City and Liverpool especially in the context of the league title.

Solksjaer also believes that the pressure will be on Jurgen Klopp and his men and he feels that it is time that Manchester United established themselves back on top of the Premier League.

The Reds Devils had a tough time post-Alex Ferguson era and this is the sixth season without the league title at Old Trafford. However, Solskjaer has warned his players that he wants anything but the best from them.

"It is difficult to win the league here. It is probably the toughest league to win and when you look at it there are only five or six teams that have won the Premier League. Leicester did it - which was a miracle - before that Blackburn did it, but then there was a few big clubs that have won it," the caretaker boss said.

"Of course they do feel that pressure. I think the supporters and players feel it, but, then again, we have not won it for a few years and so we want to get back to it. We need to make sure that we don't end up just being happy to be among the top four.

"If you aim too low and reach your targets then that's more dangerous than aiming too high and missing them."

Winning the league can be a tough task for the Red Devils from here on, but they can play a huge role in the outcome of the league title when they take on Liverpool on Sunday. But the Red Devils want to get back to their very best as soon as possible.

Solksjaer has made it clear that there isn't any question about helping our neighbours or doing them a favour by beating Liverpool. But he feels that the whole of Manchester will come together and support his boys on the night.

"We are not thinking about doing anyone any favours, but I would think the whole of Manchester will be supporting us on Sunday," he said.

"But we are just about doing ourselves a favour."

Solskjaer knows what this rivalry means to both set of fans and have also been a part of this legendary fixture in the past. The Norwegian have scored three times against his arch rivals during his playing days which also include the last-minute FA Cup fourth round winner at Old Trafford in the 1998/99 treble season.

He is also aware of the emotions regarding the fixture and how the fans want Liverpool's trophy drought to go on - as the staff at Old Trafford also wants the same this weekend.

"The staff at Carrington are Manchester United through and through," he said."Many have been here 30 years and, of course, they are chipping away on this. We have to focus that the emotion doesn't take over.

"It is not about us having to stop them, for us, it's about winning the game. You only win it by performing and you do that by focusing on your own job."

It will be a huge fixture with a lot at stake, a win for Liverpool will give them a major upper hand in the title race. Whereas it is a challenge for Solskjaer to prove himself why he deserves a permanent managerial role at Old Trafford.
