The Frenchman left Real Madrid in the summer after winning three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.

Amidst recent reports of Zinedine Zidane's likely move to Manchester United, the former French international has revealed that he is keen to return to coaching soon. He left the Real Madrid job five days after winning a third consecutive UEFA Champions League title in the summer.

The Frenchman said he believed the change was needed for the team to "keep winning" but, despite a disappointing final La Liga campaign, he left with his reputation greatly enhanced. United have been linked with a move for Zidane, with Jose Mourinho's position at Old Trafford increasingly uncertain.

"Surely I am going to return to coaching soon," Zidane told Spanish broadcaster RTVE. "Because I like it and (football) is what I have done my whole life."

According to the Telegraph, Zidane is understood to be interested in the prospect of taking over at United should Mourinho leave the club, although the Portuguese retains the backing of the club’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, for now. A senior source at the club said last month, “Why would we discuss Zidane when there is no job available?”

After back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur, Mourinho eased the mounting pressure on him with an impressive 2-0 win at Burnley just before the international break.

He told Italian reporters after the Burnley game that he did not think his job was under threat and joked that it would cost the club too much to sack him.

Mourinho’s relationship with Woodward and the players came under strain during a troubled pre-season and difficult start to the campaign, but Woodward has been keen to dismiss talk of a rift despite clear differences over the direction of the team in the summer transfer market.
