He’s got a big job and it’s going to be a tough year- Harry Redknapp on Frank Lampard
The former Blues' player will take up the mantle as manager of the London outfit in the new season.
Frank Lampard secured a sensational return to Chelsea where he had established himself as a club legend in his playing days, but this time he is returning as the boss. At the end of previous campaign, Maurizio Sarri left his role as the manager to join Juventus, after finishing third in the Premier League and lifting the UEFA Europa League, defeating their city rivals Arsenal in the final.
Lampard had impressed the football fraternity last season when he guided Derby County till the finals of the Championship play-offs, narrowly losing out to Aston Villa to the promotion. Now appointed as the manager at Chelsea, the Englishman has his hands full with a challenging role.
His uncle, Harry Redknapp, who is himself a famous coach and a well-respected figure in English football, has warned the newly appointed Chelsea boss by saying, “ It’s going to be a tough season for Frank.”
“It’s great to see him get the opportunity at Chelsea and I’m sure he’ll do well in the long term, but they’ve lost their best player in Hazard. He’s got a big job and it’s going to be a tough year. If they make the top four, and I think they can finish fourth, it’ll be a big achievement,” added the 72-year-old.
Another well-renowned name in Michael Owen has come forward to speak in this context and has backed Chelsea and Frank Lampard to succeed in the upcoming season.
“Despite their current transfer embargo Chelsea can finish the campaign in the final Champions League spot under Lampard. The Blues do have new £64m signing American international Christian Pulisic in their squad but begin life without Eden Hazard," Owen said.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]The situation at Chelsea is bleak to say the least, given that they have a transfer ban to contend with, preventing them to strengthen their squad. Moreover, Lampard is still an inexperienced figure in coaching and has no experience of leading a side like Chelsea in the Premier League. Adding to that, Eden Hazard has also left the club after securing a dream move to Real Madrid.
Lampard's stint as the tactician could not have started off with a bigger challenge, as his side will face-off in the opening fixture of the Premier League against a Manchester United side who is forging a resurgence of sorts under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who himself will enter his first full season as the permanent manager of the Red Devils.
