The summer window involved a lot of speculations regarding the transfer of the Danish midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur talisman Christian Eriksen had to stay put in North London after the European Transfer Window closed on 2nd September. With ten months remaining on his contract and with speculations of Eriksen joining Real Madrid been a piece of constant transfer news this summer, the Danish midfielder might just be disappointed that he did not get his dream move.

He scored the opener for Spurs in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the North London derby this Sunday. Christian has admitted that he wanted a new challenge and wanted to try something different away from Tottenham.

Eriksen hasn’t penned to a new deal yet and is in the final year of his contract. This implies that from January 1, he will be able to sign a pre-contract with any European club. And while this gives him a lot of leverage, Eriksen regrets not being able to sort out his future this summer. "I wish I could decide just like in Football Manager, but unfortunately I can't," Eriksen told Danish publication Ekstra Bladet.

When asked whether the comments he made about his future were a mistake, Eriksen said, "No, it wasn't. But it is football and you never know what happens in football. Many things always come into play."

"To me, it is not difficult to clear my head. I don't read much of what is written."

"And now I have been involved for many years, where there have been many rumours every year. But it's clear that it's been a little more fierce this year because my contract is about to expire."

"I know a lot of people are interested in where I want to play. That's the way it is. This is how it is in a top club if you have done well. There will always be rumours."

Meanwhile, manager Mauricio Pochettino believes Eriksen will be focussed and committed to the cause of the club now that the transfer window has closed. After benching him in the previous two games, Eriksen was recalled to the starting lineup against Arsenal where he repaid his manager’s faith in him with a goal.

“I was worried about the situation (with Eriksen) but I think he’ll be 100% focused after the transfer window ends, now he can focus on Tottenham,” Pochettino told a news conference.

“I don’t want to say it’s impossible that he leaves but it’s difficult now. I’m optimistic (he will stay), I hope everything will be clear.”
