The new Rossoneri manager has requested for some time to form a bond with the team and is optimistic about the upcoming season.

With the new season on the corner, AC Milan were held to a drubbing stalemate by Serie C side Cesena in their final pre season friendly. Having qualified for the Europa League, the Rossoneri went on to make several signings including Theo Hernandez, Franck Kessie and Leonardo Duarte.

However, results like Saturday's friendly have led to questions raised regarding the club’s chances at the upcoming season. Yet, manager Marco Giampaolo suggests, “I always said it’d take time, I am not looking for short-cuts.”

The new boss will be carrying the weight of thousands of fans’ hopes into the new season and disappointing performances like Cesena would naturally be worrisome. It hasn’t been an ideal pre season for Milan as they have previously faced defeats at the hands of Bayern Munich, Benfica and Manchester United while picking up a lone win at Kosovo-based outfit KF Feronikeli.

“Clearly we can’t be very sharp right now, but we took that into account,” said Giampaolo while speaking to Sky Sport Italia, “The game will give us indications to understand how we can improve and work better.”

“After all, I had one session with Rafael Leao, none with Ismael Bennacer, Leo Duarte had three. There are players who have quality, but don’t know what’s happening in the collective thought process because they arrived late, like Lucas Paqueta and Franck Kessie.”

The former Sampdoria boss went on to assert that,“It’s just a matter of time and working together, as so far I’ve only done that with a handful of players.”

“When I said it’d take time, I meant it, because I knew it would be like this and I am not looking for short-cuts,” he added firmly.

Milan begin their Serie A campaign under their new boss when they travel to Udinese next Sunday.
