Milan wanted to buy Hirving Lozano- Paolo Maldini
The Mexican joined Napoli for a fee reported to be around €42m.
AC Milan's Paolo Maldini has confirmed that they were keen on signing Hirving Lozano ahead of his move to Napoli in the recently concluded summer transfer window. The former defender said that their switch to a 4-3-1-2 formation changed their mind.
The Mexican winger signed for Napoli from PSV Eindhoven for a reported fee of €42m making him the most expensive signing of the Serie A club. He also became the costliest Mexican player ever.
Talking to TUDN, Maldini said, “We looked at him and thought about buying him.”
“We talked to his agent [Raiola], but in the end there was a problem concerning his position on the field. We played with a 4-3-3 last season, the perfect formation for him, but now we play in a different way."
Maldini: “We have observed Chucky Lozano and thought about signing him. We spoke with his agent [Raiola] but ultimately there was an issue related to his position. Last season we played with 4-3-3 which is perfect for him, but now we play in another way.”

“He was an option for us over the summer, but he made the decision to go to another big club like Napoli, and the factor of working with Ancelotti, who is a maestro, helps him play in his best and natural position.”
