The Italian tactician parted ways with Juventus after the previous season.

Massimiliano Allegri applauded Cristiano Ronaldo’s incredible mentality whereas he also casted some doubts over JuventusSerie A campaign.

Ronaldo joined the Old Lady last summer after a trophy-laden nine-year stint with Real Madrid. Allegri also stated that he felt that Inter Milan could secure the Serie A title this time around.  Juventus notched their eighth consecutive Scudetto last season, and whilst that was lauded by the masses, the lack of European glory eventually resulted in Allegri’s ouster from his managerial position.

Ronaldo scored 21 goals in the league competition in his maiden Serie A. Overall, he bagged 28 of them and capped off a successful individual season though a bit subtle than his usual standards. Just a couple of days ago, he scored four goals in Portugal’s 5-1 victory against Lithuania in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Regarding the Portuguese forward, Allegri said, “His strength is on a mental level. He is 34 years old, he has won championships, European titles and golden balls but he continues to give himself important stimuli that make the difference."

“The technique is fundamental to stay at high levels for many years, but the difference is made by the head and the professionalism. If I prefer to coach Ronaldo or a young talent? Ronaldo, without a doubt.”

AFC Ajax knocked the Italian giants out in the UCL quarterfinals, something that possibly did not go down well with the board.

After having won five Serie A titles in a row, Allegri was shown the door out for failing to secure the Champions League title. Maurizio Sarri is currently in-charge of the club, who won the Europa League with Chelsea last season.

Speaking on his exit from Juventus, Allegri remarked, “I have absolutely not regretted the choice made with Juventus, things must not be forced. After five years it was time to take a break, perhaps the president had understood it before me.”

However, the Serie A is bound to be more interesting this season as Inter Milan have finally seemed to found some direction and credible figures leading the project. Former Juventus’ stalwart, Antonio Conte, and the Old Lady’s previous chief executive Giuseppe Marotta are heading their way back to redemption.

Accordingly, the blue side of Milan has made the right moves in the transfer market as well by roping in the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Diego Godin amongst others.

“At Juve I won both with him [Marotta] and without him," Allegri said. "At Inter he built a strong team and with Conte he made a choice of weight on the bench. They can win the scudetto.”

The fate of the Italian league title might well go down the wire this season.
