Report: Matthijs de Ligt set to become Juventus' second-highest paid player
The defender captained Ajax to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season.
According to Sky in Italy, Matthijs de Ligt is set to join Juventus in a mega deal that would see him become the second-highest paid player at the Turin-based club. Mino Raiola, the superagent of the Dutch international, is keen to to get the most out of the deal for his client.
The move aims to establish De Ligt as one of the most important players for the Old Lady. The 19-year-old has reportedly decided against joining Paris St. Germain, Manchester United and Barcelona, to move to the Italian champions.
The Dutch international was a major revelation last season. He captained a young and energetic Ajax side to a complete domestic sweep, while also reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, only to lose against Tottenham Hotspur in a nail-biting two-legged tie.
The 19-year-old has also been making noises for the national team, playing alongside the 'best defender' of last season, Virgil van Dijk and reaching the final of the UEFA Nations League. It is where De Ligt was reportedly persuaded by Juventus' Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo to join the Turin side.
After the final, Ronaldo asked De Ligt to join Juventus ahead of the other clubs chasing him. The offer for him is said to be in the range of £60m-£70m, with Sky in Italy claiming it to be £62m.

The move to Juventus would make De Ligt Maurizio Sarri's first acquisition for his new club, since joining from Chelsea earlier this summer. The Italian joined the Old Lady after spending just a season with Chelsea.
