Both Teams look to get their first win on the board in the final round. . .
The action continues in the final round of the I-League 2nd Division when Kolkata's Southern Samity take on Lonestar Kashmir FC at the Barasat Stadium on Wednesday. Southern Samity managed to make it to the final rounds, as they came 2nd in their Group B and managed a draw against Neroca FC in the first match. Kashmir were also be held to a goalless draw in their match against Fateh Hyderabad, and both these teams will be vying for the win in to get an upper-hand in the group standings.
The tale has been quite opposite when it comes to Southern Samity and Lonestar Kashmir, as the former made it out of its group due to their impressive attack and goal-scoring potential. Kashmir, on the other hand, were the more defensive side in their group, which turned out to be amazing for them as they topped their group by only scoring 6 goals in their 6 games, conceding only 3.
This match between these different teams will be quite the spectacle as it could be a case of attack vs defense, but with both teams in dire need of three points to boost their chances of gaining the top spot(which can qualify them to the I-League next season), this could be a stellar match where only the strongest will come out on top.
Southern Samity played their best team against the dangerous Neroca FC last week, but could only fight it out for a draw against them but looked to be playing pretty positive football in their home ground. With new signing Odafa Okolie looking to be roaring, Southern Samity will be hoping that his experience and goal-scoring skills can inspire the others to put on an attacking masterclass against Lonestar Kashmir as they'll need to be at their very best in order to get goals past the rock-solid defence of Kashmir. Subrata Bhattacharya's men might bring back the experience of midfielder Ashim Biswas for the game, as his clever mind can be the key to unlocking the stubbornness of Lonestar Kashmir FC.
Lonestar Kashmir might not have the "star-studded" line-up which Southern Samity have, but they do have a lot of heart as this impressive football club from Kashmir is making its people proud with its display so far. Kashmir couldn't play many of its star players in the 0-0 draw to Fateh Hyderabad because of the abysmal playing conditions, as their star man in midfielder Aakif Javaid will probably return in the crucial game and will look to add to his tally of goals(which has reached an impressive amount of 4 goals already). Their two signings from Mohammedan in Lancine Toure and Alexandre Didier Jean Bernard Tabillon are expected to start the match as well and coach Majid Yousuf will be hoping his signings can make an impact this time round.
Head To Head:
The two teams are facing each other for the very first time. They will both be looking to get one over each other in their first encounter with a win, as that could also help them take one step closer to qualification in the I-League in the long run.
MAN TO WATCH
Southern Samity- Odafa Okolie:
Southern Samity boosted their chances of qualifying for the I-League next season when they signed up Odafa Okolie last month as their star striker. The 6' ft striker is a Churchill Brothers legend and also loved by Mohun Bagan supporters for his amazing contribution to them in the years he played for the Mariners.
Odafa made instant impact when he scored on his debut for Southern Samity when they were held by Neroca FC last week, but will look to do one better and get maximum points for his club. The towering striker is the man who can break open the tough defence of Kashmir with his skill, as Odafa is the ace in the hole for Southern Samity right now and will be key for their chances of making the I-League next season.
Lonestar Kashmir FC- Aakif Javaid
Aakif Javaid has been the attacking force for Lonestar Kashmir so far in the I-League 2nd division, as the promising midfielder has already scored 4 goals for them. Considering that Kashmir, as a whole scored only 6 goals in the league so far, Javaid having scored 4 of them is pretty remarkable and he has been in the right place at the right time to slot in some crucial goals for Kashmir and give them maximum points. The
The 25-year-old was left out of the team in their last match against Fateh Hyderabad, but will definitely be played against Southern Samity as he'll look to threaten on the attack and make and create goals for Kashmir. Majid Yousuf's men are dependent on him and he'll need to click for them to have chances of coming away with all three points and for Lonestar to silence their critics.
Southern Samity FC: Nandy, Mondal, Richard, Avinabo Bag, S.Singh, Saha, Tulunga, B.Singh, M. Singh, Odafa, Moula.
Lonestar Kashmir FC: Harpreet, Kumar, Toure, Akhtar, Tabillon, Ahmed, Qayoom, Javaid, Haroon, Wagnoo, Raina.
