The Englishman was expectant as he greeted the press before an important game at home...
DSK Shivajians go up against debutants Chennai City in their third league game of the season. DSK have lost both their games so far but their performances in those defeats have certainly encouraged Dave Rogers.
"We are looking forward to it, especially after losing on Saturday. The boys are looking forward to another big game. There are no easy games in this league," said Rogers, speaking to the press.
Speaking on the his side's next opponents, the 41-year old stated, "I wouldn't say it's our best chance. Chennai are a new team and we respect them like any other team. We just see it as the next game. We are also building a new team, we've changed the brand of football. I'm happy with the effort they've put in."
"They're a good team, a new team. It's great to have them in the league, we need teams like Chennai. I'm looking forward to welcoming the coach and the fans. We're all trying to change, the football, the mentality and the way we want to take football forward in India."
In their opening fixtures, DSK have despite positive performances succumbed to defeats. The Liverpudlian head coach, upon analysis of his team's performance said, "What would be a concern for me as a coach would be if we don't create oppurtunities and we're creating a lot of oppurtunities. On another day, we could have socred those goals."
He continued, "Against East Bengal, I felt we gave them too much respect. We looked a bit overawed. I thought there'll be only one winner in the second half. We just got caught on the long ball. There's a great team spirit. It's taken us a bit longer to gel, but we're happy with the way we're progressing. It's a marathon, not a sprint."
Irish midfielder Shane McFaul joined his gaffer for the press conference and he talked about the side's menality coimng into the game. "It's got to hurt us and it has (losing the first two games) but we're staying positive. We'll take the positives from it, work hard and look to put that right tomorrow."
The 30-year old also said, "The team spirit at the club is fantastic. It's the best I've felt throughout my career. It's a joy to go into training everyday. The results haven't come yet but everyday we work as hard we ever have."
Mentioning the importance of DSK's captain to the team, especially his deadball deliveries, the former Notts County player said, "(Juan) Quero's delivery is fantastic and we just have to make the right runs."
DSK are scheduled to play twice a week over the next fortnight but those four games all come at home. Speaking on team changes and the advantage of playing at home, Rogers mentioned, "I don't see it as an advantage (playing four home games in a row). Everyone has to play home and away. The fact that we've been given four home games in the run is the just the way the fixtures have come out."
"We'll assess everybody. That's what we have a squad for. We'll have a training session and see what's best for us."
"It's not just our team (the fixture list). We recover in the right way and that's why we have a squad of players. There's no question of fatigue. It's how you manange your players, and we manage them in the right way," Rogers continued.
