The Brazilian superstar moved to the Parc Des Princes in a world-record switch from Barcelona in the summer of 2017.

Jose Mourinho has been keen to sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale ever since he took the reigns of Manchester United in 2016. But lately, his obsession with a high-profile acquisition has shifted to Brazilian ace Neymar and he utilised the Liverpool Vs Paris Saint Germain clash in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, to ‘open up channels of dialogue’ with the player's inner circle.

Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane from the Santiago Bernabeu, Mourinho has reportedly given up on Bale and turned his focus to the costliest player in history. The Brazil international failed to score as PSG were sunk 3-2 by the Reds at Anfield.

According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Mourinho used the media interaction opportunity to reach out to Neymar's people about a potential move to United.

The Portuguese boss believes the Brazilian is the kind of player United lack to bring back the glory days. The Red Devils have been struggling to mount a title challenge since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

PSG gaffer Thomas Tuchel played Neymar on the left, but he failed to impact the game. The forward ignored his defensive duties which lead to Daniel Sturridge's goal.

Kop boss Jurgen Klopp revealed that Liverpool deliberately targeted the PSG left wing as he knew Neymar would not follow opposition full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold when the defender went forward.

"They changed a bit of the system, we expected it and didn't think too much about it," Klopp told BT Sport.

"Neymar on the left was not a bad idea and makes defending more difficult. We needed more focus and we felt we did really well.

We covered a lot of yards and closed all the gaps and when we had the ball made them run and used the right wing. Neymar is world-class, but not a defender so we tried to do that."
