Abhil B and Kingslee Fernandes scored for the port side…
Vasco Sports Club tasted their first victory of the league as they registered an easy 2-0 win over Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.
CSMT player-coach Levino Pereira made two changes, one of them being himself. Minesh Kunkolkar was the second change for Taleigao. While Vasco coach Eban Misquita made the same number of changes as Abhil B and Jose Colaco were back in the starting XI.
Bothe the teams played possession football but Vasco were more efficient in the match. Both the goals for the Vasco outfit came in the first session of play.
In the 9th minute Allen Fernandes' free-kick from the edge of the box missed the target narrowly.Ten minutes later Taleigao should have taken the lead when Gautam Dias found unmarked skipper Pramod Mardolkar in the box, whose header was brilliantly saved by Vasco keeper Shilton Pereira. Few minutes later Vasco took the lead, Sujil NS moved on the left flank and sent a cross to well positioned Abhil B who controlled the ball and beat the keeper with neat placement. On 34 minutes, Sherwin Lobo tried to set up unmarked Pramod Mardolkar in the box but Vasco defender Rovan Pereira cleared before the striker could get to it. Three minutes before the break Vasco doubled their lead when Sujil NS did the spadework this time for Kingslee Fernandes who guided the ball into the net.
On resumption, in the very first minute Vasco should have amplified their lead but the crossbar denied Abhil’s header off Kingslee Fernandes’ cross. At the other end Levino Pereira’s direct free-kick from the right flank was blocked by Vasco keeper Shilton. In the 58 minute Vasco’s Ivory Coast signing Franck Alves Kouassi was given his marching orders for a second booking. Few minutes before the full-time wistle Vasco had another chance but this time Kingslee failed to keep the ball on target after receiving perfect pass from Sujil NS.
Talegao tried to get back in the match but the Vasco defense failed to bulge. In the closing stage of the match, Sherwin Lobo and Gopi Gad tried their luck from distance bringing the Vasco keeper into action but missed the target narrowly.
Vasco coach Eban Mesquita was happy with the victory and said “We played quite well today. I knew that I am going to win with this team. We will see resurrected Vasco in future matches.”
With this win VSC have opened their points tally and moved up to 8th position. While CSMT moved down to 10th in the league table.
