We are alive now and nerd to continue winning-Habas

The Pune City manager was pleased with his team’s first home win of the season…

FC Pune City head coach Antonio Lopez Habas was delighted to see his side seal their first home win of the season as he prepared to meet the media after the game on Sunday night.

The Stallions took the three points through goals from Eduardo Ferreira and Anibal Rodriguez either side of the break. Iain Hume had managed to get a goal back for Kolkata but the hosts held on valiantly to claim all three points and move off the bottom of the table.

The Spaniard, Habas acknowledged the importance of the win but stressed his side needs to keep winning. “Yes, we are alive now. Everyone today saw that Pune is not bad. But it’s not important. We’ve beaten the team that has been playing the best football in the league this year, so we are happy with that. But nothing special. It’s good for our morale. But it’s one game. We need to continue winning.”

Ferreira the goalscorer had moments before the goal been down on the ground in an unconscious state but recovered quickly to put his side in front. Despite that, the centre-back could not continue owing to the impact of his initial concussion.

Habas spoke on the issue stating, “He has some problem below his eye on his cheekbone. He is back to the stadium. He’s fine. He went to the hospital and he’s fine and that’s great news for us.”

“We had too much pressure in the last week because the result wasn’t coming. The players had a lot of pressure today. Eduardo scored. He saw the tension that I, the players and everyone had, so he came and hugged me. I want to say Eduardo is a magnificent player and a magnificent guy. He is a bit of a crazy guy too. Till the last moment, we will fight.”

Habas’ first meeting with his former club saw a fiery game, with tackles flying in left, right and centre. The 59-year-old explained the change in his side’s intensity and style. “My team is like that, intense, it’s strong. Till now, we were rushing so we had no time to build and practice my style. But today, the players gave their 100% on and off the pitch. For that, I want to thank them and congratulate them because that ensured we got a good result. But now we need to continue like this, we don’t have much time but we need to keep working,” he said.
