We can score more goals but it is a problem for us-Coppell

The Englishman also suggested that his team were at a disadvantage to play four away games in a row and were looking forward to getting back to Kerala…

Kerala Blasters came into the their fourth away game o the bounce with five points from the last nine. But, that run was halted by a commanding Delhi Dynamos performance with the hosts winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Kean Lewis and Marcelinho. Blasters boss Steve Coppell met the press after the match.

The away team conceded two quick goals early in the second half and asked if tired played a part Coppell said, ““We weren't tired but it was the goal. The goal was unfortunate as far as we were concerned. Actually, we were attacking and a couple of unfortunate errors cost us a goal. Goals turn games, they change the very nature of the performance. We then had to try and resurrect play by changing shapes slightly, which possibly didn't suit us. We looked very solid and competitive in the first half. I don't exactly remember the exact time when the first goal was scored but even in the second half, the first 10 minutes, the game was dormant but then the goal transformed everything,”

Kerala have scored only four goals this season and the coach agreed it was difficult for them to recover from losing positions due to their lack of potency in front of goal. : “If you are free scoring then you have confidence that you can get back into the game, like we showed against FC Goa, it is not the end of the world if we concede a goal we can bounce back. I think we are a side capable of scoring goals but it is a problem for us. I've spent many hours thinking about it, even my staff has spent many hours thinking how we can improve, how we can get more men forward,” the 61-year-old Englishman said.

He continued: “It is something we will continue to work on. We have got two home games coming up and if we get the points we are back in the thick of things. So that is going to be the objective now. I feel for the first hour we played very well against a free flowing attacking side. Our objective now is to get ourselves back to coaching, lick our wounds, we have got some players who have got some knocks, then get ourselves ready to play against FC Goa.

Blasters are the only team to have played four away games on the bounce and have spent three weeks on the road. Coppell felt his side were at a disadvantage with the constant travelling. He also suggested that it wasn’t a good idea to schedule a game in Delhi in and around Diwali week after the game was played in heavy smog.

The tactician had emphasised on his team needing to show more attacking intemnt in the lead up to the game and yet. There seemed a reluctance from the Blasters to get bodies in the box. Comment on whether his side were conservative Coppell said, I think you’ve got to gove respect to Delhi here. I watched the Pune game on TV and they had so many chances. Pune didn’t really have that many. It’s a difficult place to come and play and they are a good side. I don’t think they’ll be far off at the end of the season. They have some attractive players going forward. We needed to try and get at them as much as possible which we tried to do. . In the first half we had a couple of really good chances. In the second half after the goal it was difficult to get any kind of support. Rafi does a great job for us. But, we need to get a bit more support from midfield and in the wide areas to make our attacks a little bit more handful.”
