Winning is the most important thing in football-Vingada

The Highlanders boss has assured fans that his team will do everything they can to make it to the playoffs…

After a hard fought win against Antonio Habas’ FC Pune City team on its home soil, NorthEast United head coach Nelo Vingada looked relived when he faced the scribes after the match. “It was a very intense game. Sometimes we played well, sometimes we didn’t. But, we win and NorthEast United is back. Winning is the most important thing in football.”

India Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati looked deserted on Tuesday despite the manager’s appeal before the game for the fans to turn out in their thousands and the empty stands were a source of disappointment for Vingada. “Today, I saw very few fans in the stands, but I wish I could shake hands with them one by one. These are the real people that deserve this win. Again I say thank you so much.”

Next up for the Highlanders are Chennaiyin FC on Saturday and on being quizzed about whether his injured players will be available for the match the manager said, “We have to play on Saturday against Chennai. We will see their (injured players) conditions but I think it will be difficult for them to play in this short recovery period.”

Repeating his request for the supporters to keep faith in his team which is now placed 6th with 14 points in 11 games so far, he said. “I understand many of our supporters want to come, but I can understand sometimes life become harder. Many people think that we can’t win any more, but I and my players assure you, we will play up to the last game with our bes,” he concluded.
