Midfielder Joshua Vaz played a key role in Cavelossim’s victory…

Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim came up with a brilliant performance as they registered a 4-2 win over Clube Sao Miguel De Taleigao in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Talegao player-coach Levino Pereira made two changes to his side as Gourav Kankonkar and Kreston Estrocio were back in starting XI. While Bersal Viegas, Jeet Gupta and Aaren D’Silva were the alterations to the Cavelossim lineup. Both teams came into this match with defeat in their last match. Entire match witnessed an end-to-end affair as Cavelossim were more efficient in the first half but second half saw Taleigoa in more attacking mood. Just two minutes had passed on the newly installed digital scoreboard, when Cavelossim took the early lead. Cresson Antao connected his header off a free-kick by Joshua Vaz, with Talegao keeper Rohan Sheikh helpless. Three minutes later the Talegao custodian was in action again as he dived to his left and saved Joshua’s effort from the edge of the box.

Levino’s penalty was blocked with a diving save by Cavelossim keeper Jeet, but Levino scored off the rebound. Cavelossim once again took the lead in the 22nd minute when Aaren D’Silva showed excellent footwork in the opposition’s box before passing it to unmarked Velington Rocha who made no mistake to put the ball in the net. Ten minutes later Cavelossim increase their lead, Aaren D’Silva tapped the ball home after getting hold of a through pass from Melwin Fernandes. In first half added time Taleigao should have reduced Cavelossim’s lead but Levino’s free header was not even close to goal. Two minutes into the second half Cavelossim’s Bersal Viegas’ shot from 18 yards was paired by the Taleigao shot-stopper to corner. A Minute later Bersal found Cresson Antao in the box but his header was brilliantly blocked by keeper Rohan. At the other end Cavelossim custodian Jeet came up with two excellent saves to deny Gourav from point blank range. On the hour mark Joshua sent a curling cross to Daulat Dessai in the box, but the striker’s shot was blocked by Talegao keeper Rohan. Six minutes later Pramod Mardolkar drove a long ranger from the right flank which was pushed for a corner by the keeper with a diving save. Taleigao regrouped and pulled one back in the 85th minute through Mardolkar off a through pass from Sherwin Lobo making it 2-3 for his side. Cavelossim should have further increased their lead, but Taleigao keeper Rohan Sheikh produced a brave one-on-one save to deny substitute Gammy Costa from scoring. However, in the last minute of added time theTaleigao keeper was cautioned and a penalty awarded after he brought down Cavelossim Daulat Dessi inside the penalty box. Joshuah Vaz scored to make it 4-2. Even after scoring four goals SCC Cavelossim coach Severino Fernandes was not happy and said “I am not happy with my boys. Though they have scored four goals, they have also conceded two. They didn’t play to their full potential, especially in the last 15 minutes.” With this win over Taleigao, SCC Cavelossim moved to 2nd position with 10 points from 5 matches. CSM Taleigao will sit at the bottom of the table with just 1 point from 4 outings.
