Copa America 2019: I need to mature in some ways- Gabriel Jesus on red card
A red card, an assist and a goal were the things the Manchester City forward was involved in the continental cup final.
Brazil lifted the Copa America trophy after their 3-1 win over Peru on 7th July 2019. The 46th edition of the continental cup saw the hosts go unbeaten in their ninth title victory. Brazil opened the scoring in the 15th minute but Peru equalised through a spot-kick at the 41st-minute mark, only to get behind again in the stoppage time of the first half.
The second half saw the sending off of Gabriel Jesus and the penalty goal from Richarlison to seal the win. The Manchester City forward Jesus had an exceptional game. He scored and assisted in the first half and was shown a second yellow followed by the red in the other half.
And after the game, he admits that he needs to be mature in some ways. He said, "I don’t want to make anybody shut their mouth; I’m not interested in any of that.” Jesus furiously punched the VAR booth while going back to the dressing room.

“I am very conscious of my true level and criticism will always come - it can’t be compliments all the time. I need to mature in some ways, but I try to give my all on the pitch and I am just delighted to win.”
Gabriel has also won the Olympics Gold medal in 2016 and ironically at the same stadium of the Copa America triumph. “This is a sacred place in football,” Jesus said.
He added, ”To be champion here for a second time is very satisfying. I am very happy to win a trophy with my country, wearing the Brazil shirt, inside the Maracana, scoring a goal and helping the team. It is a day that I will remember for a long time.”

Brazil only conceded a single goal in six matches of this edition that too straight in the final when the Peru captain Paolo Guerrero sent Alisson Becker in the opposite direction from the spot-kick.
