Felix Odili Chidi scored four goals, while Kapil Hoble, Beevan D’Mello and Anthony D’Souza netted one each…

Dempo Sports Club devastated Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim as they registere a thumping 7-0 win in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler stadium earlier today.

Cavelossim were struggling in the league as they were winless in the last three matches, latest coming against Calangute Association. While Dempo were in the good form as they have already beaten heavyweights Salagaocar FC and Churchill Brothers. However, they suffered a shocking defeat in the last match against Calangute.

Dempo Coach Mauricio Afonso made two changes to his side as Germanpreet Singh and Anthony D’Souza were back in the starting XI. While thye Cavelossim head coach made the same numbers of changes in the team. He gave a first cap to Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh replacing the suspended Agnelo Gomes. U20 Veegan Ferrao was the second change in his team.

Dempo took control of the match from the very first minute and came up with the first chance of the match. Beevan D’Mello setup the perfect pass to Felix Odili Chidi in the box, but the Nigerian striker’s shot was very well blocked by Cavelossim keeper Gurpreet. A few minutes later another chance came Dempo’s way but this time Beevan’s shot was blocked by defender Jasper Pereira at the cost of the corner. Once again the Golden Eagles came close to scoring but skipper Shallum Pires failed to control his header. In the 12th minutes, Joaquim Carvalho brought down Beevan in the box, giving away the penalty for Dempo. Felix made no mistake to convert the same and take the Panjim side into an early lead. They doubled the lead when Anthony cut past two defenders and passed it to Kapil Hobble in the box, the U20 winger easily tapped the ball home from close range and sent their supporters int celebration mode. Energized by two goals, Dempo created one more chance but this time Germanpreet’s long ranger was pushed for a corner by Cavelossim keeper Gurpreet with a diving effort.

Later part of the first session witnessed three quick goals from the Panjim-based club. First, Felix stylishly headed between the goalkeeper and the defender for his second and the team’s third, off Hayden Fernandes curling cross. Later, he completed his hat-trick with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, which finished in the back of the nylons. Next Anthony who helped in every goal of the match, dribbled past four defenders in the box and calmly placed the ball on the right side of the net to make it 5-0 for the Golden Eagles.

Dempo almost scored the sixth goal of the match in the very first minute of the second half, when Beevan set up Kapil with a beautiful pass in the box, the U20 made no mistake to finished it in the net but failed to beat the offside trap. But it didn’t take long for Dempo to inflate their lead as Beevan chested down a perfect cross from Nickson Castanha and clinically placed it in the net. A few minutes later, substitute Velito Cruz tried his luck from the distance, only to see it miss by a few inches. The show was not over yet, as Felix came up with his fourth and Dempo’s seventh when he made no mistake to place the ball in the goal after receiving a perfect cross from substitute Gabriel Fernandes.

The Dempo coach Mauricio was very happy with the result and said “I am very happy to see the score line. We completely dominated the match and hope to continue with the same form.”
With today’s win, Dempo moved to the 3rd place with 22 points from 11 matches. While Cavelossim have 14 points after playing 13 matches and stand 7th in the league table.
