Dempo trounce Corps of Signals in Goa Pro League.

Dempo Sports Club routed Corps of Signals 4-1 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Dempo Coach Mauricio Afonso made five changes to his side as Joaquim Abranches, Naveen Mendes, Milagres Gonsalves, Germanpreet Singh and U20 Kapil Hoble was back in the starting XI. While Prosun Sarkar, L. Solomon and Shubert Pereira found their name on Corps lineup. Corps started the match on a attacking note but as it progressed Dempo were the dominant side. Dempo defender Naveen and India international Germanpreet were outstanding in the overall match. Five minutes after kick-off Nickson Casta tried to set up Germanpreet in the box from a 20-yard free-kick, but defender Kuldeep Kumar cleared it before the midfielder could get to it. Few minutes later Milagres wasted an opportunity to take rgw Golden Eagles into an early lead. Germanpreet found an unmarked Milagres in the box but Corps keeper Prosun stretched to his limits to deny the striker’s header. In the 27th minute Dempo skipper Shallum Pires saw his cross from the left flank slip from Signals keeper Prosun's gloves and land in the nylons making it 1-0 for the Panjim side. Pepped up by the goal, Dempo just took seven minutes to double their lead. The Signals keeper tried to clear Nickson’s cross from the right flank but it landed on Joaquim’s foot who slotted the ball home. Trailing by two goals, Corps replaced u20 Selwyn Miranda with Lairelakpam in the 36th minute. Just three minutes later Lairelakpam reduced the margin for Signals, when his 30-yard shot hit the far post and went into the Dempo net. Dempo showed attacking intent and restored their cushion thee minutes into the second half. Germanpreet got hold the a ball on the halfway line covered and some ground before firing a deadly shot which ended in the back of the net with the Signals shot-stopper helpless. The Navelim side did come close to reducing the margin in the 74th minute but Dempo centre-back Mohammad Ali blocked Lairelakpam's shot from close range for a corner. Once again Signals were unluckily as Th. Roshan Singh's shot hit the Dempo defender and went a for corner. While Signals were busy attacking, Dempo made it 4-1 on the counter-attack when Naveen dribbled past three defenders before crossing it to substitute Felix Chidi, who made no mistake to tap the ball home. Signals made frantic efforta to reduce the lead but the Dempo defence gave nothing away. Newly caped India International Germanpreet was overjoyed with the victory and said, “We played a good game today. Name on score sheet always gives happiness to everyone and I am no different from them. ” Dempo are back to 2nd position with 7 points from 3 matches. With 3 points in the basket from 3 outings, Corps remain at 8th position in the table.
