DSK Shivajians play host to Chennai City in I-League
The Shivajians square off against the newcomers and will be raring to get their first points of the season...
The home side have ended up on the losing side in both their fixtures so far, a 1-0 loss away to Mumbai FC and and a 2-1 loss at home against East Bengal. Yet, it is fair to suggest that Dave Rogers' side warranted more from their performances.
Chennai City, who are competing in the I-League for the first time, played out a well fought 0-0 draw on opening day against fellow newcomers Minerva Punjab FC. It was goalkeeper Karanjit Singh who spared the side from being thrashed on the second matchay, when they went up against champions Bengaluru FC. They'll take a 2-0 loss coming into what could be a crucial game in Pune.
DSK are of course, immune from relegation until the end of 2018, but Chennai will know they need a positive result on Tuesday.
Team News
The Shivajians also went through Round 2 unscathed but they could go with a similar starting line-up considering they've been at home during the period. Veteran goalkeeper Subrata Paul has been absent from action till now and it seems unlikely that he'll be back for the midweek game. Soram Poirei, who had a positive game in goal, is expected to continue.
The visitors played a brave yet exhausting game in Bengaluru over the weekend and Robin Charles Raja could decide to rotate his squad come matchday. Otherwise, the club face no injuries as they prepare for their third game in the I-League.
Head To Head
The two clubs have never squared off against each other before Tuesday.
Man To Watch
Jerry Mawhimingthanga-DSK Shivajians: The youngster who last year spent time at Liverpool's Melwood academy along with Lallianzuala Chhangte has started both games for the Shivajians. Taking up the number 8 shirt, Jerry has been solid in the middle of midfield, and has shown he has the ability to chip in with goals and assists too, creating a couple of wonderful chances. The 19-year old has been at the club for over three years now, coming through the ranks, not just at the club but also at the national level. He is not just one to look out for in the next game, but also one for the future.
Denson Devadas-Chennai City FC: On the BACK end of the spectrum in terms of careers, Denson Devadas, at the age of 34 is seen as an experienced pro, one who has been in and around the national setup for years now. The all action midfielder has been a consistent performer in the I-League and Chennai City shall rely on his experience and guile to guide them through their debut season in the league.
