Qatar inaugurates Al Wakrah Stadium, hosts Xavi's farewell match
The venue has also been given the nickname of 'vagina-shaped' stadium.
Qatar official opened its Al Wakrah Stadium (16th May 2019), which is one of the seven 2022 FIFA World Cup venues. It also hosted the Emir Cup final between Al Sadd and Al-Duhail, which the latter won, 1-4. It was also Xavi's farewell match, although he was denied to add another title to his trophy cabinet.

The venue was designed by British-Iraqi architect Dame Zaha Hadid, who died of a heart attack in 2016.

The stadium hosted fans and some football legends like Cafu, Samuel Eto'o, and Tim Cahill. Amongst the fans, Jamshedpur FC's official fan group, The Red Miners were also present.

It has also been given the nickname of 'vagina-shaped' stadium. Although, the stadium has been inspired by the shape of a dhow boat.

Edmilson Junior and Youssef Al-Arabi scored two more goals to register a title win for their side.
After the 2022 World Cup, the stadium will become Al-Wakrah Sports Club's home ground. It will be used for Qatar Stars League fixtures.
