FC Bardez Goa made a superb start to professional football by holding Dempo Sports Club to a goalless draw in the Goa Police Cup match played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Within five minute of play Dempo found their first chance of the match. Shallum Pires found Nigerian Felix Chidi just outside the box but his header missed the target. Ten minutes later Adil Khan was shown a yellow card for a rash tackle on Bardez defender Jessel Carneiro just on the edge of the box . At the hour mark Bardez’s Myron Mendes' powerful 25 yard shot missed the target by a hairline distance. Dempo’s Milagres Gonsalves and Nickson Castanha were add-ons to thereferee’s yellow card list in the first half. Two minutes before the break Dempo were lucky to escape without conceding a goal. Bardez’s Mendes, Latesh Mandrekar and Alesh Sawant failed to score from close range . Into the second half and Chidi's shot from close distance was superbly blocked by Bardez keeper Mirshad K. Chidi’s shot from 20 yards was easily saved by the Bardez custodian who quickly passed it to Sawant who started a counter-attack and passed it to Richard Costa whose power-packed right-footer hit the right top corner with the Dempo defense beaten. In the dyeing minutes of the match Girish Naik tried his luck from outside the box but his shot sailed over the crossbar.FC Bardez Coach Armando Colaco was happy with his team's performance. "My boys really played well against fancied Dempo and I hope they continue playing like this”. This was a particularly good start for FCBG given that their opposition played with two foreigners.
