The 27-year-old also had kind words for his teammates’ performance on Tuesday night.
It was a heroic performance from Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, as the Blue Tigers held reigning Asian champions Qatar to a goalless draw in their second game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday night
The Indian skipper was in tremendous form as he stood tall against the mighty Maroons. Felix Sanchez’s men went all out in search of a goal, but they were denied time and again by the Arjuna Awardee goalkeeper.

Speaking after the match, Gurpreet was delighted with the efforts from his teammates and the way they held their fort throughout the game against a top side like Qatar. “I am really proud of the boys and the perseverance they showed was great. The team-effort helped us achieve the result. It will help us immensely in the qualifiers,” he said.
“We have played just two matches, and we have played well, that too against two powerful teams. It gives us that added motivation and confidence that in football, anything is possible,” he added.
Sandhu did not forget to applaud the great support the Blue Tigers had away from home at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium as he added, “It was like playing at home away from home. The support was incredible. They spurred us on, cheering us all throughout.”
The Indian custodian also spoke about the importance of players getting together as a team and displaying one of the finest performances of recent times by the national team, as the 27-year old feels that was the mantra behind India’s positive result from this game. “I think every single one of them played their heart out and gave everything, that’s why it was possible to come back with a smile and have one point.”
