The hosts face West Bengal in the next match...
Two second half goals from Latesh Mandrekar and Liston Colaco helped Goa to script a 2-1 win over Meghalaya in the 71st Santosh Trophy match played at GMC Stadium earlier today.
Goa started the match offensively after the kickoff and took just four minutes to take a shot on target when Liston forced Meghalaya keeper Keino Lyngkho to dive to his limit to save his powerful shot from inside the box. Keeper Keino was in action again when he collected Liston’s low shot on goal.
In the 35th minute, Goa had a good chance to score when skipper Francis Fernandes made a run on the right wing and curled the ball perfectly into the feet of Liston but the U-21 striker failed to connect from close.
At the other end, Meghalaya also had one chance in the session when Enestar Malngiang dribbled past few defender near the box but his final pass went astray.
The host took just four minutes after the resumption of play to open their tally when Latesh brilliantly shot past keeper Keino, off Liston’s perfect pass in the box. Two minutes later, Goa doubled their lead when Liston easily cut past a defender and made no mistake to strike past the keeper Keino.
Down by two goals, Meghalaya refused to give up and attacked the hosts where they earned a free-kick, just outside the box. Enestar stepped forward and beat Goan keeper Agnelo Gomes to his left with a perfect shot.
