With this win, Calangute climb to 4th position with 25 points from 18 matches, while Vasco have 17 points from 18 outings.

Calangute Association registered an overpowering 4-1 win over Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.

Treyson D’Costa and Leny Fernandes were back in Vasco’s side which went down to FC Goa in the last match, while Calangute who had defeated Panjim Footballers in the previous round match also had two changes as Omkar Shelar and Sanjay Vengurlekar made into the cut.

After some probing attacks from both the ends, it was Calangute who surged ahead first in the 16th minutes when Vasco defender failed to clear Joston Pereira’s long ball, taking advantage of the same Calangute U-20 striker Sanjay slotted the ball home from close.

Another chance came into Calangute’s way at the half-hour mark when Joston made a superb run in the box and shot on the goal but Vasco keeper Amit Biswas blocked it for safety. A very next minute, keeper Amit came with another excellent save as this time he leapt high to tip Joston’s goalbound shot.

At the other end, Vasco lone striker Franky Oliveiro missed the sitter when he failed to connect to open header from close off Anil Gaoncar’s fine cross from the left flank. A few minutes later, Anil came with another fine cross from the same side but this time none of his teammates were present to connect it.

Just before the half-time, Vasco had another chance to put the terms on the level when Anil brilliantly lay off the ball to overlapping his teammate Vasseba Toure but the Guinean midfielder failed to connect with just Calangute keeper at the stake.

The second session started with a quick attack from the Port Towners as Anil came up with another deadly cross in the box but Franky headed wide from close.

Meanwhile, the Beachside doubled their tally in the 55th minutes when Bonny Niasso made a darting run from the halfway line and passed it to Blake Haldankar in the box who made an easy tap-in from close to make it 2-0 for Calangute.

A few minutes later, Bonny came with a similar run but this time his strike blocked by Vasco keeper Amit.

Ten minutes later, Substitute Ashok Megheri inflated Calangute’s lead when he tapped in the loose ball at the goalmouth to make it 3-0 for his side.

In the last few minutes, Vasco also had two chances but first Franky’s shot from close was tipped by Calangute keeper Jason D’Mello, while substitute Micky Fernandes’ 25-yarder freekick rebounded off the crossbar.

However, in the 89th minutes, Vasco were successful to break Calangute’s strong defence when Micky dangerously moved inside the box and found Franky with a superb low cross who made an easy tap in to reduce the margin for his side.

In the added time, substitute Jayganesh Goltekar restored the three-goal lead for Calangute when he smartly headed in from close off Newton’s fine cross from the deep left flank.
