FC Goa overpower FC Bardez in GPL
Liston Colaco once again shone in the Junior Gaurs' commanding victory.
Ten-man FC Goa squeezed past FC Bardez 4-2 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.
Goans who had blanked Dempo SC 3-0 in their last round match made few changes to their side as Meldon D’Silva, Brian Faria, Hayden Fernandes and Kingslee Fernandes were back in the starting XI for the Junior Gaurs, while Bardez coach Armando Colaco made three changes following their 3-3 draw against Vasco SC in the last match as Viraj Naik, Ronil Azavedo and Danstan found their names in the playing XI.
Goans started the match with possession play where they frustrated the opponents with a superb short passing in the first 10 minutes. However, it was Bardez who came close to scoring first when their skipper Jessel Carneiro made a curling cross in the box but striker Ronil headed wide.
At the other end, Liston Colaco made a dangerous run in the box and dribbled past few Bardez defenders with a brilliant footwork but U-20 defender Gaurav cleared the danger on time.
A few minutes later, Goans came twice close to scoring but first Aaren D’Silva was blocked by Bardez keeper Aliston Fernandes in one-on-one, while a few minutes later, keeper Aliston made a diving effort to pushed Liston Colaco’s goalbound free-kick for a corner.
However, in the 28th minutes, keeper Aliston could not manage to stop Leander D’Cunha’s who made a neat placement from inside the box after receiving a through pass from Yasir Mohammad to take Goans into the lead.
Five minutes later, Bardez had a golden opportunity to put the terms on a level when skipper once again came with a fine cross from the left but this time Shubham Rao Desai tapped above the crossbar from the goalmouth.
It was just three minutes into the second session when Goans doubled their lead through Lalnunsiama who made a simple tap-in from inside the box to Yasir’s smart free-kick from the 25 yards.

Four minutes later, Bardez reduced the margin when Ronil put the ball home from close after receiving a square pass from Kirtikesh Gadekar in the box.
Goans had a chance to further increase their lead in the 57th minutes when Liston set up Aaren with just keeper to beat but his strike was brilliantly blocked by keeper Aliston.
A few minutes later, Goans were reduced to 10-men as Brian was given the marching orders following his second booking of the match due to harsh tackle on Bardez defender Joliston Rebello.
However, Goan further inflated their lead in the 73 minutes when Liston scored from the spot after Bardez skipper Jessel brought down him inside the box to give away the penalty.
In the last quarter of the match, Bardez had another chance to reduced the margin when they were awarded a penalty after Goan defender brought down Shubham in the box but Micky Vaz shot from the spot was brilliantly blocked by the Goan keeper Mohammad Nawaz.

In the added time, Inacio Colaco reduced the margin for the Pink Brigade when he intercepted a back pass from Jason Barbosa and finished at the far post to make it 2-4 for Bardez but it was too late to get back into the match as Goans took all three points home.
