Nicholas Rodrigues, Yakubu Mohammed, Perryson Rebello, Abel Hammond and Nicolau Colaco scored for the South Goa club.
Guardian Angel Sports Club registered a fluent 5-0 win over FC Bardez in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.
With this win, Angels go up to the 5th position with 23 points from 16 matches, while Bardez continues their 9th position with 17 points from 18 matches.
Angels who defeated the same opponents by six goals in their last match had no changes to their lineup, while Bardez who had drawn with Churchill Brothers in the last match had three changes as Viraj Naik, Gaurav Vaigankar and Lalbabu Matho found a place in Climax Lawrence’s XI.
The match started with a midfield play as both the teams tried to keep the ball, however in the 11th minutes, Angels came close to scoring when their Nigerian striker Yakubu Mohammed shot on the goal from the right flank but his shot hit the far post and came back into play.
A few minutes later, Aniston Fernandes had a chance to put Angels into the lead when he was nicely fed by skipper Nicholas Rodrigues with a long ball but the midfielder failed to connect from close with just keeper to beat.
Angels finally managed to surge ahead in the 38th minutes when skipper Nicholas’ fierce shot hit the crossbar and dropped inside the goal to put the South Goan team into the lead.
Five minutes later, Yakubu doubled their tally when he shot past Bardez keeper David Chauhan from close after receiving a long ball from Nicolau Colaco to make it 2-0 for his side.
Bardez had only one chance in the entire session which came in the added time when Inacio Colaco found Stany Brangaza with a curling free-kick but the striker failed to control his header as the same missed the target by few inches.
It was just four minutes in the second session when Perryson Rebello scored the third goal of the match for the Curchorem side when he after receiving a perfect through pass from Clifton Dias made no mistake to beat the onrushing Bardez keeper David from close.
Angels almost scored their fourth goal in the 72 minutes when Nicolau headed on the goal off Nicholas’s corner but Bardez keeper David nicely paired it for a corner.
However, in the last quarter of the match, Angels added two more goals to their count as first substitute Ghanaian striker Abel Hammond converted from the spot after Yakubu was brought down in the box by Bardez defender Viraj to give away the penalty kick, while in the 86th minutes, Nicolau neatly headed in from close off Aniston’s well-taken corner to make it 5-0.
