SCC Cavelossim hand Panjim Footballers their second straight defeat in GPL
Substitute Samson Simoes scored the only goal of the match in the second half.
Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim secured a solitary goal win over Panjim Footballers in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.
However, the three points made no difference to their standing as they stand 11th with just 11 points from 15 matches, while Panjim stands on the 10th position with 15 points from 17 outings.
Panjim coach Savio Vaz had made two changes to his side following a defeat against Calangute Association in the last match as Prisco Moura and Clive Miranda found a place in the starting XI, while Cavelossim who held Sporting Clube de Goa also had a few changes to their side as Rohan Kamble and Perryson Fernandes were included in the starting XI by their coach Severino Fernandes.
Panjim had clear-cut chance to surge ahead in the 10th minutes when Kunal Kundaikar found unmarked Akeraj Martin with just keeper to beat but the striker headed wide from close. A minute later, Panjim keeper Gurpreet Singh was tasted when Perryson was in the commanding position to take Cavelossim into the lead but the custodian brilliantly blocked the striker in a one-on-one situation.

At the other end, Cavelossim keeper Razak Devsor came with a diving save to deny Sachidanand Satelkar’s goalbound shot from inside the box. A few minutes later, Cavelossim winger Mathew Colaco made a superb run in the box and cut-back it to Darren Fernandes in the goalmouth but the U-20 midfielder shot sky-high from close.
In the added time of the first session, Cavelossim almost scored through Mathew Colaco’s header off Moises D’Sa’s corner but Panjim defence Prasil Kankonkar had something different in his mind as he made a brilliant goal-line clearance to keep it clean at the half-time.
Cavelossim coach Severino brought in Samson Simoes to replace U-20 striker Perryson at the half-time, while Panjim coach Savio made two quick substitutions at the start of the second session as Egyptian striker Fady Riad and Joston Cardozo were brought in to sharpen them in attacking but it was the South Goan club who took the lead through the substitute striker in the 60th minutes as Samson made no mistake to neatly place the ball home from close after receiving a perfect through pass from Rohan in the box to make it 1-0 for Cavelossim.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]They had another chance in the 81st minutes when Moises made a superb run dribbling past a defender and tried his luck from inside the box but his sparkling strike was brilliantly denied by keeper Gurpreet, the ball later travelled to Samson but the striker failed to connect from close.
Another chance went into the vain for the South Goan club in the 85th minutes as this time substitute Ralf Fernandes saw his shot nicely collected by Panjim custodian Gurpreet.
