East Bengal came back in the second half with a changed spirit. The hosts played a more attacking brand of football however, were unable to get past the deadlock of the Mohun Bagan defenders. The East Bengal frontline was delivered some cutting edge passes from the defense and the midfield but the hosts could not cope with the pressure and were unable to finish the chances. Mohun Bagan on the other hands performed an exceptional defensive skill in the second half, deploying which they finally stole one point from this season’s first derby. 56′ Willis Plaza with another sudden brilliant shot in the Mohun Bagan goal but the shot goes wide once again. Sensational pass from Robin Singh.

52′ Nikhil Poojary looks dangerous in the right wing as the youngster goes up with another defense threatning attack but is brought down by Bagan defenders quickly. 

49′ Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Debjit Majumder is down with a back injury following an aerial duel with Red and Gold striker Robin Singh. Support staff comes into the pitch.

48′ Mohun Bagan with a early second half attack to the East Bengal box but Ivan Bukenya is quick to retaliate as the Ugandan defender sends the ball out. 

46′ And the kick off whistle to the second half is blown.  

The first half of the Kolkata derby was merely a show of strength for both the teams. However, moments of some special performances were displayed by the teams but both were unable to finish the chances and take the lead for themselves. Both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan did well in the frontlines, however, the defense looked leaky and brittling at moments as both the Kolkata giants kept bombarding the opposition box. 45′ Yellow card shown to East Bengal skipper Lalrindika Ralte, who pushed Mohun Bagan forward Darryl Duffy few moments ago alleging the Scottish striker to stump on Rehenesh. 

42′ Sony Norde passes the ball down to Pranoy Halder in front of the East Bengal goal who in turn shoots the ball wide, yet wasting another chance created by the Haitian. 

40′ Willis Plaza with another shot in the Mohun Bagan box but is intercepted by Anas Edathodika who sends the ball back into the game.  

37′ The fans are growing impatient for the lack of goals in the derby in the stadium as both the teams are primariliy brawling the midfield. 

33′ Mohun Bagan with three back to back set pieces aimed for the East Bengal goal but all the threats were cleared by the likes of Ivan Bukenya and Mehtab Hossian in the end. 

31′ Duffy working tirelessly in the frontlines as he makes another run towards the right wing to receive a ball from the midfield but is intercepted by Narayan Das who makes a neat clearance.  

28′ Subhasish Bose is being taken out on stretchers as the left back picks up a thigh injury in his left leg. Tough time for the Mariners as the visitors are lacking a regular left back in their starting XI. 

27′ Wedson with a bullet-like shot intended for the top right corner of the goal but has misjudged as the ball goes out wide. Wasted once again.

25′ The game is having a paradigm shift. The visiting team is going down as East Bengal keeps hitting the Mariners with effective counter attacks again and again. 

23′ Willis Plaza with a sudden run and shot on Mohun Bagan goal but is an easy save for Debjit Majumder in the goal. 

20′ The Indian National Team Coach Stephen Constantine is in the stands, watching his first Kolkata Derby. Even more reason for the players to perform well.

18′ Gurwinder Singh makes a rash tackle on Darryl Duffy but the referee acts quickly and stops the match to warn the East Bengal stopper.

15′ Mohun Bagan with two quick attacks in the opposition box but both the shots are saved by Rehenesh under the sticks. 

12′ Poojary with another impressive solo run down the right wing but Anas Edathodika reacts quickly and sends the ball out of the pitch by intercepting the young winger.

10′ Mohun Bagan with their first shot towards the goal as Darryl Duffy receives a pass from Pronay Halder in the midfield, dribbles around Gurwinder Singh and passes it down to Sony Norde, who in turn shoots the ball wide.

8′ Nikhil Poojry with an impressive cross into the Mohun Bagan box but the Debjit is quick to react who collects the ball in the air. Wasted. 

7′ East Bengal is again with a counter attack but Robin Singh pushes Eduardo Ferreira who goes down as a result and the referee calls for a foul. 

5′ Wedson chips the ball from behind. The referee calls for a foul and Eduardo takes the shot.

4′ Rahul Bheke with a long ball intended for Robin Singh in the right wing but Subhasish intercepts the ball and sends the ball back to the game. 

3′ Mohun Bagan with an early attack but the ball goes out of the game as Katsumi misunderstood the first touch of the ball. Goal kick for East Bengal. 

1′ And we are underway here at Siliguri. East Bengal face Mohun Bagan in the first Derby of the season.  

04:37 pm Former East Bengal and Mohun Bagan player Baichung Bhutia is in the stands today. Both the fan bases are here with banners, chants and colored smokes which is literally changing the atmosphere in a rather entertaining one.

04:28 pm Minutes to go before this season’s first Kolkata Derby goes underway. With both teams aiming for the I-League glory at the season’s end, this is going to be a very important clash between these two giants nonetheless.

04:25 pm The hosts, East Bengal are currently the League leaders with 19 points whereas Mohun Bagan is in the second place with 16 points, playing a match less. Wedson Anselme and Willis Plaza are East Bengal’s top scorers with five goals each whereas Darryl Duffy leads Mohun Bagan’s scoring charts in the League with six goals registered to his name.

04:11 pm The atmosphere at Kanchenjunga stadium is literally out of the worlds. Despite being a well-known East Bengal fortress, the Siliguri stadium is also partly filled with lots of Mariners’ fans who has traveled from several different places to here at Siliguri to support and cheer Mohun Bagan.

04:10 pm Mohun Bagan will be depending hugely upon their marquee player Sony Norde to win the match. Norde has proved himself to be a leadership character in the past two seasons for Mohun Bagan, however, the Haitian has never scored against East Bengal in the Kolkata Derby.

04:08 pm The last time East Bengal and Mohun Bagan met against each other, it was nowhere other than the Kanchenjunga stadium last year, where East Bengal won the match 2-1.
