The Spaniard has expressed his desire to move back to his native Spain.

East Bengal head coach Alejandro Menendez Garcia has resigned from his position due to personal issues and wants to move back to Spain. The former Real Madrid Castilla coach was under pressure ahead of the all-important Kolkata Derby on Sunday. However, another defeat at the hands of his team's eternal rivals made things even worse. Three defeats in a row have left the Red and Gold languishing in seventh position in the I-League table. [KH_ADWORDS type="3" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] He was pretty frustrated in the post-match press conference where he spoke about his past plaudits with the team. But, with the supporters unhappy with the team and also with successive losses, things went from bad to worse for the Spanish tactician. Menendez held a respected position among East Bengal supporters, especially after last season's heroics, where his side finished runners-up to Chennai City FC only by a point. However, the tables have turned drastically as supporters were agitated with their team's sluggish performances this season and there were chants of 'go back' after their humiliating loss against Gokulam Kerala at home. There have been questions raised about his team selection and the decision to allow some players from last season to leave. However the Quess management clearly stated that it was the coach who had the last call in terms of selection and therefore, pressure was mounting on him with every bad result. While parting ways with East Bengal, Alejandro Menendez said, "I am happy for the progress the club has made during my tenure as the head coach and I wish to see the new leadership take this progress to the next level. I enjoyed my duration with the club and wish the team and the fans all the best." The existing coaching staff is expected to continue in his absence until the management finds his replacement. He has lead the team in the right direction and we thank the coach for his contribution to the club and wish him much success for the future." Now this puts the Red and Gold Brigade in a deeper hole this season and it will be interesting to see who replaces the Spaniard at the helm for the rest of the season.
