The former Costa Rican international is likely to return to Kolkata on a three-month contract.

Things are going downhill for East Bengal this season, as they find themselves in 10th position in the I-League with 11 points in 10 games.  Last month they sacked their Spanish head coach Alejandro Menendez on account of their dismal start to the campaign. [KH_ADWORDS type="4" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] Since then, Mario Riviera, the assistant coach of Menendez last season, has been appointed to lead the side, but things don’t seem to be improving for the Red and Gold Brigade. Now, to change the fortunes of the club, the management are reported trying to get back one of their consistent players from last season Johnny Acosta. The Costa Rican could replace Martin Crespi if a settlement can be reached with the defender. However, the centre-back is demanding compensation for the full length of his remaining contract, which could prove a stumbling block. Johnny Acosta

Johnny Acosta’s wife Andre Fernandez Morales and his son Kevin Acosta announced on Instagram that the 2018 World Cup participant is set to re-join the Kolkata giants in a bid to solve their defensive problems. East Bengal have conceded 12 goals in 10 games this season and one of the reasons for their lacklustre displays has been the performances of their foreign signings. Universidad de Costa Rica in the Costa Rican top division and their season got over in January. Since then, he has been out of contract and not associated with any club. East Bengal have lost four of their last five games and will be hoping for an upturn in form with 10 games to go.
