The two games series are the biggest brands in the football gaming industry.

The sports gaming industry is a domain which is sprawling with the pinnacle of technology and entertainment. Football has always been a huge part of the gaming scene and is at the summit of sports gaming, being by far the most popular. The two giants that are at constant loggerheads are Electronic Art’s FIFA series and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer. Over the last decade or so, football in the gaming sector has seen a massive growth, both in terms of realistic gameplay and fan following.

The FIFA series by EA has always been a favourite among gamers for its large roster of authentic leagues, teams and players; while PES by Konami has always been hailed for its faster gameplay and realistic graphics. However, in recent years, FIFA has dominated the competition and the last nail in the coffin seems to have been hammered in. The one feature that made gamers pick up PES time and again was the authentic UEFA Champions League.

The 2019 edition trailers of both games have confirmed that EA will finally be featuring the Champions League along with Europa League and the Super Cup in their upcoming FIFA 19 game; since the deal that gave exclusive rights to PES over the Champions League has ended. The YouTube thumbnail for the FIFA 19 trailer features the logo of the Champions League which sets the tone for the rest of the trailer.

The game is built on the successful Frostbite Engine. The trailer starts with an iconic monologue from the FIFA 19 poster-boy, Cristiano Ronaldo with a sublime rendition of the UEFA Champions League anthem playing in the background, featuring Real Madrid lifting the trophy.

The trailer clearly presents the fans with what is supposed to be the highlight feature of FIFA 19, the UEFA Champions League official tournament. EA iarecertain to win over a major section of football gaming fans who will shift from PES to FIFA due to the addition of the UCL alone. The final missing jewel from the FIFA series' crown has finally been added with the acquisition of UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the Super Cup. No more European Champions Cup for FIFA fans, thankfully.

FIFA 19 will release across all platforms such as the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will also continue for a second season on the Nintendo Switch. The release date for the game has been confirmed by EA as 28 September 2018.

Minimum System Requirements for FIFA 19 (PC) :

  • CPU – Intel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz
  • RAM – 8 GB
  • HDD Space – 50 GB
  • OS – Win 7 64bit
  • VGA – Nvidia GeForce GTX 460/AMD Radeon R7 260 (1GB)

Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 trailer review

The focus is on Phillipe Coutinho of FC Barcelona and David Beckham for the most part of the trailer. The trend continues with Konami showcasing the depth in their gameplay and the stunning visuals. This edition boasts of a bigger authentic roster of leagues, kits and players, notably the AFC Champions League. However, it lags way behind FIFA 19 in this regard. The game will bank heavily on their loyal fan-base to boost sales and save this sinking ship.

Losing out on the coveted exclusive rights to the UEFA Champions League tournament and the Europa League has been a huge loss and it could be the beginning of an existential crisis for Pro Evolution Soccer in the worst case scenario.

The release date has been confirmed by Konami as 28 August 2018, a good month before the release of FIFA 19, which might help to get in those crucial early sales. The game will release across the PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms, but not on Nintendo Switch unlike FIFA 19.

Minimum System Requirements for Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 (PC) :

  • CPU – Intel Core i5-3450 3.10 GHz
  • RAM – 8 GB
  • HDD Space – 30 GB
  • OS – Win 7 64bit
  • VGA – Nvidia GTX 650/AMD Radeon HD 7750

Both the titles are heavily packed with new features and the attractive trailers have increased the hype around them, especially among the football gaming fans. It will be interesting to see who wins the bragging rights this time around. It is likely that FIFA has taken a step ahead, by introducing UEFA tournaments which have hogged all the limelight and already the odds seem to be heavily in EA’s favour.
