The coach admitted the change in formation after the goal was his own idea.
ATK had the perfect Christmas cheer, as they overcame Bengaluru FC in the battle of the heavyweights and thereby established themselves once again at the top of the ISL standings. The only goal on the night came from David Williams, who slotted the ball home early in the second half against Carles Cuadrat and Co. who didn't have a single shot on target on the night. Bengaluru coach Cuadrat had a lot of reasons to be disappointed and certainly concerning his team's shooting and congratulated the opposition for the win. [KH_ADWORDS type="3" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] The Spaniard took responsibility for the defeat and attributed it to his change of formation and tactics once ATK had taken the lead. The coach mentioned his assessment saying, "As a coach, you have to make decisions. I think we played well. Congratulations to ATK, they played a good game of football." "We controlled the two strikers (Williams and Roy Krishna) well in the first half. But, Rahul (Bheke) was struggling to move upfront from defence and that is what we were talking about at half-time, to switch him to the wing (for Juanan). We hoped it would work, but unfortunately it didn't." [KH_ADWORDS type="4" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] Carles Cuadrat went on to explain his tactics after his side conceded the goal. "We had a goal against us. After that, I tried to change the formation and the system. We started with the 4-3-3 and ended up playing 4-4-2. As a coach, you have to try and work with the things you have." "It was that kind of a game, where the team getting the first goal has a lot of advantage because the other team has to attack and that leaves spaces on the counter-attack. So, we were trying to be the first team to score, but unfortunately it went against us." He said, "In the first half, we were all over them. At half-time I said to my players, the first 10 minutes (of the second-half) is where they will attack us, but they scored and we lost a bit of concentration. So, we have to work on it and hope to play well in the first 10 minutes." Bengaluru succumbed to their second defeat of the season and will face another tough test at home against FC Goa on January 3 in the New Year. ATK are currently at the top of the ISL standings and will finish the year as such, if Goa lose to Chennaiyin FC tomorrow. They will travel to Mumbai to face Mumbai City FC on January 4.Latest News
