David Williams: With Roy Krishna and me, we are going to do great things
The Australian was in the sound form on the night as he scored a brace to give his side a double lead in the first half itself.
New entrants Hyderabad FC were subjected to a thumping defeat by ATK in their first match in the Indian Super League. The Kolkata-based side was in ruthless form, with David Williams and Edu Garcia bagging braces and causing further lament to Hyderabad FC.
David Williams looked to be in sublime touch, as he first notched a goal in the 25th minute and then tripled Kolkata’s lead just a minute before half-time, with another fantastic strike that aided ATK to further strengthen their hold over proceedings.

We stick to our gameplan. We followed the instructions of our coach and we were successful. In the second half we could have been more attacking in the first 25 minutes. We dropped deep too much.”
ATK’s forward line has been viewed with great intrigue and they did justice to the whole hullabaloo with their impressive display in their very first game of this edition of the tournament. His interlinking with Roy Krishna was commendable too, as Williams had initially started off playing in the hole just behind the forward.
Regarding his partnership with Roy, Williams said, “I know Roy very well. We push each other on the pitch. I have more experience than him, but he has his own wisdom to give me. We spend a lot of time together and that helps us.”
Despite the visibly brilliant talent that exists in their roster, the team was a bit disappointed with their defeat against Kerala Blasters on the opening day of the season. However, the sheer manner in which ATK have managed to bounce back, provides a clear testament to what could be expected of them in the coming matches.
The 31-year-old stated, “I think we have a good core team. This gives the local boys, who have enormous talent, the chance to express themselves better. But, it is sometimes difficult as they lack experience.
“After the defeat the team-talk didn't change much. The coach was happy with our performance. We didn't get the win because of situations that were beyond our control and I don't want to mention that. We fought as a team today and we got the result.”
Kolkata have a peculiarly attractive style of play in action too and David Williams accordingly had some words about the observations that he has made regarding the general style in which football is played by the other teams.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News | Article Continues Below"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]He said, “The main thing that I have noticed in this league is that teams loose possession very easily. We want to keep the ball and control the game. The other teams are good, but most of them can't control the game. We want to do that. We want to create history by winning the league three times. This is a young league and we want to stand out.”
About his personal role, David Williams looked to thrive in playing through the centre, as he had more chances to involve himself in the playmaking scenarios and seemed to relish playing in that position as well. He remarked, “I like to play centrally. That gives me the freedom to go both left and right. With Roy and me together, we are going to do great things.”
ATK play their next game against Chennaiyin FC on the 30th of October, whilst Hyderabad would be coming up against Jamshedpur FC on the 29th of this month.
