The 34-year-old was one of the most important part of the Blues' title triumph last season.
Spanish centre back Albert Serran has extended his contract with Bengaluru FC for another year. The 34-year-old defender played a crucial in their maiden Indian Super League (ISL) triumph last season.
Serran joined the Blues last season and partnered his compatriot, Juanan with poise. He played 17 matches in the league campaign and was quick in adapting to new conditions in India.
Starting his career at Espanyol back in 2002, the defender has come a long way now. Serran has plied his trade in European clubs in countries like Spain, Cyprus and even had a stint in the United Kingdom with Swansea City. He came to India from Morrocan club CR Al Hoceima.
Serran was brought in to fill the void left by John Johnson who went on to join ATK last season as Bengaluru FC were in dire need of a defender to partner Juanan. Serran formed a formidable partnership with the 32-year old Spaniard and made an almost instant impact for the Blues.
The Blues' defensive duo played a huge role in their triumph in the league, as Bengaluru topped the league phrase and then defeated Northeast United over two legs before beating FC Goa in the final by the virtue of a late Rahul Bheke header.
With another huge season in front of the Blues, it will be crucial for the side and Carles Cudrat to hold on to his star players after parting ways with talismanic forward Miku and midfielder Xisco Hernandez to Delhi Dynamos this summer.

Sunil Chhetri and company are clubbed with teams like Army Red, Jamshedpur FC and arch-rivals East Bengal. The Blues are set to play their first match against Army Red on August 6.
The Spanish tactician will also be wary about the fact that his men will be featured in the AFC Champions League qualifiers later in the season and hence he will be keen on building a strong team.
