The Blues heave a huge sigh of relief as they manage to hold on to the lead and overcome the Gaurs attacking threat. The players and staff are absolutely fired up and it can be seen in their reactions, the Blues start the year on a winning note and win big as they defeat the table toppers and move second on the table. FC Goa have just faced their second defeat of the season however sit comfortably at the top as they are two points clear off Bengaluru FC. Sunil Chhetri once again stands out and guides his side to a very important victory with a brace, however the defense put up a lot of work in keeping the Gaurs at bay. FC Goa did nothing wrong except for lose track of Chhetri on two occasions and the Indian ace has made them pay for it. 93' Edu Bedia fires from distance once again and is denied by Sandhu's sharp reflexes. 93' The Guars were just on the brink of conceding again as Dimas set up Semboi, the attacker fails to make anything of it. 91' FC Goa throwing men forward in search of the equalizer, can they repeat the scenes that took place at the Fatorda? Not with Ashique on the sidelines. 90' Edu Bedia strikes one from far away, Sandhu manages to get the faintest of touches and sends it wide for a corner. 88' Ashique seems to have picked up an injury and has been stretchered off the field, the Blues are out of subs and are down to ten men. 87' Substitution for FC Goa: Pena off for Edu Bedia. 83' GOAL!!! An interesting second half awaits as Bengaluru FC striker Manuel Onwu was seen warming up minutes before the halftime whistle indicating a change in personnel. Carles seems to have played his first move, FC Goa must now put their faith on their assistant coach Jesus Tato's to implement Lobera's tactical prowess into the side. FC Goa have complete control over Bengaluru FC at the moment. 7' Corominas lays a beautiful ball for Mandar Rao inside the box, the defender strikes it against Ashique. 6' Possession has been equally shared between both sides so far and will more or less remain the same with the rigidity in defense displayed by both sides so far. 3' Brilliant interception from Fall in the middle of the pitch stops the Blues from moving forward. 1' Bengaluru FC's first attack with Chhetri alone in the box is ruled offside. 7:30 pm Kick Off!!! And we are underway with the first match of the new year. 7:23 pm The players make their way onto the pitch to get things started. 7:20 pm The technical staff and substitutes make their way to the field, FC Goa is led by their assistant coach Jesus Tato due to head coach Sergio Lobera's suspension from the touchline. 7:15 pm In what promises to be a midfield battle, Bengaluru FC midfielder Dimas Delgado has completed the most number of passes in the league this season with a total of 655 passes. Carles Cuadrat revealed he loves the gameplay of FC Goa I love the way that Goa play because they have the most number of goals under Sergio Lobera and they’re a very good team to watch. At the same time, we are football professionals too and we know how it works. But, they are clever, taking advantage of certain situations that the referees should punish,” he said. Jesus Tato feels the Blues are under pressure going into the game "Right now, I think the big pressure is for them. We have five points of difference. At the beginning of the season, they wanted to reach the final of the season and also get the first spot to the AFC Champions League qualification, but now there is a difference of five points,” he opined.
