The Bengaluru FC head coach also stressed that the game against the Islanders will be a tough one.

After what seems like a long break from Indian Super League action, Carles Cuadrat and his Bengaluru FC side are set to face-off against Mumbai City FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday. The Blues are the only team in the league, who are still undefeated and they will be eager to keep that unbeaten run going into the New Year. Ahead of the fixture, head coach Carles Cuadrat addressed the media, with assistance from goalkeeper Prabhushkan Singh Gill.

Prabhsukhan Gill was asked about his experience working with India’s numero uno goalkeeper, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, when the teenager answered, “I get to learn a lot working with him, not just on the field, but off the field as well. How to maintain yourself, your physical fitness. On the field, obviously, whatever minute errors I make, he corrects me and makes sure I understand.”

Carles Cuadrat was asked about the fitness of the squad and especially Manuel Onwu, having had a break of more than a week from ISL football.

“How fit the players were before doesn’t matter because we’re training every week, working hard and we don’t have a very bad list of injuries. The only problem was Manuel Onwu out with an ankle problem and there is no change in his situation,” the Spaniard said.

Carles Cuadrat On Mumbai City FC

Bengaluru FC were forced to defend a one-goal lead in their previous game against Odisha FC and Carles Cuadrat was quizzed about whether they were feeling confident going into this fixture against Mumbai City.

“They are still a very similar team to the one from last season and against them, we picked up only one point out of a possible six. While they have some changes to the squad, the core of the Mumbai team remains the same, which means that it will be a challenge," he responded.

Thoughts On His Players

“There are a lot of teams on similar points, but I trust my players and my team to make sure that we always provide good competition and make it difficult for the opposition to score a goal. This makes us a bad opponent to play against because a lot of teams have come to Kanteerava trying to create an impact, but none of them have been able to so far," Carles Cuadrat went on to say.

"I’m happy with the work that my players are doing and I’m expecting a tough game, as always. Although, Mumbai will be eager to try and make up the gap, my players have been working hard and I believe that with the help of the supporters, we can have a good game at Kanteerava,” the tactician added.

Prabsukhan Singh Gill On Training At Bengaluru FC

Gill was questioned about his general mindset during training. “When I was at Indian Arrows, it was still a developmental setup, which makes this my first professional experience. I’m working and trying to learn and improve as much as possible every day and enjoy every single training session as well," the youngster replied.

Carles Cuadrat responded to questions about the competitiveness of the second half of the league by saying, “We made a few rotations last season because we were in a comfortable position. But, we have to keep the level up because we aim to reach the AFC Champions League. Every game until the end of the season is now important and it adds a great level of competition to the league.”

To finish, Carles Cuadrat was quizzed about reports of the Blues moving for Jamaican forward Deshorn Brown.

“We currently have only six foreigners in our squad, while we are allowed seven, so it is something that I will consider. If you look at the games so far, we’ve usually been playing with five foreigners. But, there have been moments where we’ve been with even three and two. All I can say is that we have a slot available in the team and if at some point in the season, I think there is a special moment where I can make a signing, then it’s possible," he signed off.
