The Gaurs cruised to a comfortable 3-0 success cheered on by their vociferous home support.

FC Goa started the Indian Super League 2019-20 season with a convincing 3-0 win over Chennaiyin FC at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa on Wednesday night.

Seiminlen Doungel, who made his first start for Goa gave them the lead on the half hour mark, while Ferran Corominas and Carlos Pena scored in the 62nd and 81st minute respectively to book all three points from the first ISL match.

Here's a look at how the Indian players from FC Goa & Chennaiyin FC fared in the clash.

FC Goa

Mohammad Nawaz (GK)- 6.5

The young custodian was hardly tested in the first session. Except for shots from Lallianzuala Chhangte and Eli Sabia, from which he made comfortable saves, he had a walk in the park in the rest of the match.

Manvir Singh- 7.0

The forward had a brilliant game, as he played an instrumental role in the first goal with a perfect cut-back to his teammate Doungel. He also made some superb raids in the final third to threaten the rival defence line till the end.

Mandar Rao Dessai- 6.0

Though he did not deliver an extraordinary performance in the entire match, he made sure that every danger that came his way was cleared on time to keep his side safe.

Watch: FC Goa Vs Chennaiyin FC highlights

Jackichand Singh- 6.0

The winger was hardly seen in attack, but he made an important interception in the first session. However, he was influential in the final third in the second half, as he assisted Corominas in doubling their lead with a perfect low cross.

Seriton Fernandes- 7.0

Though the left-back justified his role, he was lucky in the early minutes of the match, as his tackle on Dragos Firtulescu in the box could have cost them a penalty. However, he kept every danger at bay to help his side to start the season with a convincing victory.

He was also adjudged the Man of Match for his influential role in defence as well as in attack.

Lenny Rodrigues- 6.0

The defensive midfielder was confident during the entire 90 minutes, with some short passes and also helped in building attacks for his side. While he also made some clearances and interception to help the team to keep a clean-sheet.

Brandon Fernandes- 6.5

He was calm on the field and justified his responsibilities with some great short passes and through-passes, as well as helping his side in the defence. He was also brilliant with set-pieces and in one of these, he assisted Carlos Pena to score the third goal on the night.

Seiminlen Doungel- 7.0

The debutant for Goa had a decent game from the start, as he created several opportunities for the hosts. With his pace, he was lethal upfront. He was always seen at the right position and this led to Goa’s opening goal, when Chennaiyin defender Sabia’s clearance hit the forward and finished in the net.

Substitutes

Princeton Rebello- N/A

The young midfielder could only play for three minutes and did not have any impact on the game.

Liston Colaco- N/A

The FC Goa academy graduate did not have any time to influence the flow of the game.

Saviour Gama- N/A

The last substitute for the hosts came on in the 89th minute and did not do much.

Chennaiyin FC

Vishal Kaith- 5.5

Though the South Indian side conceded three goals, the custodian was superb at the start of the match, as he brilliantly denied Doungel, Manvir and Corominas in the first session. Vishal tried to give his best for his team, but his backline did not support him resulting in the miserable defeat in Goa.

Jerry Lalrinzuala- 4.5

He wasn't allowed to play his game by Seriton and Lenny, as his every raid was defused by the Goan defenders. However, he helped his defence with a few clearances and interceptions.

Dhanpal Ganesh- 4.0

A very forgettable game for the midfielder, as he failed to create any potent chance. He was also a failure in supplying support in the attacking third and was substituted at half-time.

Thoi Singh- 4.5

The midfielder found it difficult to sustain an impact in front of Goa’s strong defence line, as he was outclassed every time in the final third by the Goan defenders.

Lallianzuala Chhangte- 5.0

He failed to contribute in attack, as he was hardly seen with the ball. However, he had a great opportunity to reduce the margin for his side in the 73rd minute, but his goalbound strike was brilliantly cleared by keeper Nawaz.

Edwin Vanspaul- 5.0

He was very shaky from the start and gave a lot of space to Goa’s attackers to raid. His contribution to the defensive department was very little, as most of the opposition's attacks were concentrated on the other side.

Substitutes

Anirudh Thapa- 5.0

It was surprising to see the India international midfielder benched at the start of the match. However, he made his appearance in the second half, but could not help his team from sinking.
