Bikash Jairu was sent off for the Men of Steel as they played with ten men for the majority of the game.

The game between Jamshedpur vs Odisha ended up with the hosts eking out a narrow 2-1 win despite being reduced to 10 men at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur on Tuesday. The hosts took the lead in the 17th minute when Farukh Choudhary’s attempt was luckily flicked into goal by a botched Rana Gharami clearance. But things changed when Bikash Jairu was sent off in the 35th minute.

Aridane Santana equalized in the 40th minute with a stunning attempt. But, Jamshedpur weathered the storm and found the winner through Sergio Castel in the 85th minute to hand Odisha a loss on their debut. Here are the player ratings for the game.

Jamshedpur FC

Subrata Paul- 6.0

The veteran goalkeeper seemed alert in between his posts, but was helpless against Santana’s thunderbolt after the half-hour mark. Proved his class later in the second half with multiple instinctive saves to keep his side in the game.

Joyner Lourenco- 7.0

Lourenco looked the most stable of the Jamshedpur defenders, holding his own against Odisha’s attackers. He made seven tackles and ten clearances in a proactive performance and despite not being helped by his compatriots, the new signing proved his mettle by parrying out danger numerous times.

Keegan Pereira- 6.0

Keegan didn’t look the most comfortable in a central defensive role, struggling to stop attacks. Allowed Jerry to easily go past him through on goal, leading to Jairu’s sending off. Later picked up an unnecessary yellow-card, but cleared danger on numerous (8) occasions to keep the game competitive.

Match Highlights: Jamshedpur FC vs Odisha FC

Bikash Jairu- 4.0

Cut an isolated figure on the left flank, rarely creating anything. Vented his frustrations by heckling young Jerry down in a clear goalscoring opportunity. Deservedly sent off to round off a terrible personal start to the season.

Farukh Choudhary- 7.0

A diligent figure twaddling up and down, Farukh was a confident figure. He blazed forward with intent on numerous occasions, also putting in a couple of strong crosses. Lady Luck smiled on him when his attempted cross was hauled into goal by Rana.

Fluffed a golden opportunity in the 77th to get his first one, deciding to pass despite being one-on-one with Dorronsoro inside the box. Despite that, the 22-year-old’s unlimited energy ran Odisha ragged and won him the Man of the Match award.

Aniket Jadhav- 6.0

The former Indian Arrows product was  a breath of fresh air to Jamshedpur’s attacks. He troubled Narayan with his incisive movement down the right, dribbling past him on multiple occasions. Lacked that cutting edge. Substituted after running out of energy and being booked.

Substitutes

Sumeet Passi- 6.0

Nearly scored after arriving onto the pitch, but his shot went narrowly wide of the goal. Had another shot on goal, but was more focused on helping defensively otherwise.

Robin Gurung- N/A

Brought on in the dying minutes to see out the result.

Odisha FC

Shubham Sarangi- 6.5

The young right-back frustrated Jairu by standing tall, making occasional strong challenges (4 tackles, 3 clearances) to keep out trouble. Was always involved in the game and also offered help moving forward to support Jerry. Made an especially impressive defence-splitting pass in the 67th minute to force a promising chance to get the winner.

Rana Gharami- 5.0

Gharami seemed nervous right from the getgo dealing with Farukh and Sergio Castel’s mobile threats. He was unable to assert his authority and unfortunately botched a clearance into his own net to start his campaign miserably. Recovered somewhat later on, but the Spanish striker had his number all game.

Narayan Das- 5.5

Narayan was visibly troubled by Aniket’s movement, but didn’t allow the youngster to put in the final product. The experienced left-back made some commanding challenges, making four successful tackles as well. Was not as influential with his crosses as needed. Was nowhere to be found for Castel’s winner either.

Vinit Rai- 6.0

Rai was happy sitting ahead protecting his defence and flinging the ball wide to keep play ticking. He was somewhat troubled by Jamshedpur’s quick-paced counter-attacks, but held his ground against their experienced midfielders. Became a bit flustered later on and was substituted for lack of attacking influence.

Jerry Mawhmingthanga- 7.5

The former Jamshedpur FC man came back to haunt his former employers at the Furnace. Acted like an electric figure down the right, putting in a peach of a cross for Santana early on. He also hit the post later on after turning Jamshedpur inside out.

Jairu couldn’t deal with his pace and was sent-off for a horrible challenge, after which Jerry was further motivated to assist Santana’s equalizer with a great cross. Wore off energy late on.

Nandhakumar Sekar- 5.5

Nandhakumar couldn’t match Jerry’s influence going forward, but did show signs of his dribbling ability by dancing past a few bodies to excite the fans. Was always looking to create stuff with inviting crosses (3), while also doing his defensive work diligently to support Narayan.

Substitutes

Bikramjit Singh- 6.0

Brought on to amplify Odisha’s attacking zest and did just that by strutting forward. Forced a strong save off Paul with a stinging attempt in the 67th.

Seiminmang Manchong- N/A

The teenager almost won a point for Odisha, but his late shot went straight at Paul.
