Thursday night's game saw several Indian players displaying their true potential.

Mumbai City were outclassed and castled by Odisha FC on Friday night, which turned out as the latter's first win of the ISL 2019-20 campaign. Odisha FC head coach Josep Gombau was insistent upon his team playing a particular brand of football irrespective of the result and the outcome was certainly notable against the Islanders.

Riding on a brace from Aridane Santana, an early goal from Xisco Hernandez and then a goal in the 41st minute by Jerry Mawihmingthanga meant that the visitors posed too much to handle for Mumbai City. Rowllin Borges' injury during the warm-up meant that the midfield lost a lot of steam and that was evident throughout the game.

Mumbai City FC

Amrinder Singh (GK)- 5.0

Amrinder had a nightmare against Odisha FC on Friday as the Islanders' defence was ripped apart by the precision based attack of the visitors. He looked incompetent under the bars at times as he forced to let four goals past him.

Mohammed Rafique- 4.5

Being not a natural right-back, Rafique was slotted in the position as a replacement and did fairly well but his lack of pace and very little experience in the position meant that two goals were either scored or created on the right hand side.

Sarthak Golui- 5.0

Golui and his partner Pratik could do very little to prevent the onslaught. Mumbai City's lack of a central defensive midfielder meant that there was practically no one keeping a tab on Xisco Hernandez or Vinit Rai, who played in an attacking role for Odisha FC.

Subhashish Bose- 5.0

Bose looked off colour for the majority of the game as he was often outsmarted by the Odisha FC forwards. Vinit was one of the chief assailants against Bose, who made sure Bose could not match his usual self.

Pratik Chaudhari- 4.5

Although Pratik perfectly complemented Sarthak Golui, he could do very little against Aridane Santana, who scored a brace against Mumbai City. Although Pratik matched Santana physically, the technicality of the forward was far too superior for the 30-year-old.

Raynier Fernandes- 6.5

Watch: Raynier Fernandes speaks after the defeat against Odisha FC

Raynier struggled alone at the middle of the park as he was surrounded and swarmed out of the game. But his ability on the ball helped him out of sticky situations. He is a brilliant attacker but neither him nor Paulo were equipped to handle the defensive end of the midfield. The gaps left by his teammates meant that Raynier had to run way too much for little things.

Substitutes

Valpuia Hmingthanmawia- 4.0

Valpuia came in for Subashish but later was slotted in for Rafique, who was substituted as well. He could do very little and his ignorance led to the fourth goal for Odisha FC.

Bipin Singh- 6.0

Bipin came in for Paulo Machado but could not affect the game much, considering he is a winger and another hole was created in the midfield. But he did well to score a goal in the dying minutes to reduce the embarrassment for the Islanders.

Vignesh Dakhsinamurthy- N/A

Came in for Rafique but slotted in for Bose. He might do well with some more game time.

Odisha FC

Shubham Sarangi- 7.5

A constant irritation for Mumbai City, Shubham played the disruptive left-back's role very well. He put in the work and ensured that neither Kevyn nor Diego could do much against him. If he keeps this up, an India call-up may be in the offing.

Rana Gharami- 6.5

Gharami seemed nervous at first but did well in his role in the defence. He constantly stopped attacks and made sure that his tackles were clean and accurate. Not much else is expected of defenders but he may turn out to be a leader in the near future if anything were to happen to Tebar.

Narayan Das- 7.5

Narayan Das fulfilled his responsibilities as a full back and constantly harangued Rafique, the stand-in for Souvik Chakrabarti in the Mumbai City side. He was a thorn to the Islanders during the entirety of the game and did well against both Kevyn and Diego who often switched sides.

Vinit Rai- 7.0

Rai was pro active but slightly destructive tonight. He was carded early on in the game as he looked to disrupt the Mumbai attack. His antiques got him a stern word from the referee but that didn’t stop him from making unnecessary tackles.

Jerry Mawhmingthanga- 8.5

Jerry was a lively figure in the Odisha FC side

Jerry is a star in the truest sense of the word. The diminutive winger has worked much more than what his height or physicality could permit. His crosses were pin point accurate and he did not disappoint when he pounced on a deflected shot by Nandhakumar  Sekar to score his first goal for Odisha FC. Bright things lie ahead for the young forward.

Nandhakumar Sekar- 7.5

Nandhakumar couldn’t match Jerry’s influence going forward, but showed signs of his dribbling ability on multiple occasions. His shot that Amrinder deflected resulted into a goal for Jerry was an icing on his performance.
