The Brazilian was still upbeat about his team’s season after defeat against NorthEast United….
On the back his team’ first ever defeat against NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League history, FC Goa coach Zico faced the press immediately after the match. Zico said he did not lose heart from defeat and accepted that the result was A learning curve for his side. He promised to bounce back in style. “I think we played well, but we could not overcome the result. We tried our best and we fought till the end. This is just the beginning, like our first season we are opening with a defeat. We will overcome it,” he said. Match Highlights
The main concern for the Goa side this season seems injury to a bunch of players including first choice goalkeeper Subhasish Roy Chowdhury. He said, “I hope our team does well but as per what the doctor said we may not call them for the next game also. We need to know about Subhasish from the ISL because we have sent all reports. We are waiting for the answer from the ISL to sign another goalkeeper. If Subhasish goes out, we will have to bring in a foreign goalkeeper. If he can stay in the team, we have one more foreign player to sign yet. So, we are in this situation and waiting for an answer.”
About the first goal of the match, which resulted from a mistake by goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani, Zico commented, “It is not a usual thing which happens with Kattimani. He has a lot of credibility. When we lose, we lose as one team and not as the fault of one person. I think we had some problems like we could not play any friendlies as soon as we got back to India. I think we created a lot of chances in the game. It is just a beginning and we have lot of miles to go. We are going to keep working.”
Zico lauded the young and energetic talent pool of NorthEast United FC including his former disciple in the first season Holicharan Narzary.
”He played very well. When he was with us, we were very happy to give opportunities to him in the beginning. I just hope he keeps playing well. He gave a very nice pass for the second goal. I hope he helps NorthEast United” Zico concluded.
