Its less than a week when the most-awaited King’s Cup kicks off in Thailand as teams are already revving up to lock horns on June 5th. However, in a piece of saddening news for the fans, Vietnamese star defender Tran Dinh Trong is ruled out from the competition after suffering with an injury he picked up during a domestic league match.
The Hanoi FC centre back limped off the pitch during his side’s V League 1 tie against HAGL and after a post-match assessment, it was confirmed that he wouldn’t be able to feature for his nation at the upcoming tournament.
The 22-year-old has been one of the regular starters for his country of late and was also a part of the team which clinched the AFF Championship last year. One of the highly rated youngsters in the country, Tran Dinh Trong will be dearly missed in the King’s Cup.
Hours after the news of his injury, Vietnam head coach Park Hang-seo confirmed that Nguyen Thanh Chung will replace him in the national team squad. Interestingly, the 21-year-old is a teammate of Dinh Trong at Hanoi FC and would be a good replacement for him.
