Lack of goals is a concern-Surinder Singh
The Minerva boss is keen for his team to start scoring goals...
Ahead of their third I-League fixture against Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan, Minerva Punjab FC head coach Surinder Singh expressed his concerns about his team’s lack of goals till now. The Punjab-based team have played against Chennai City and Aizawl FC in their first two I-League games in the last two weeks and have failed to score any goals against either of the games.
“Yes definitely,” answered Singh when asked if he thinks his team is currently lacking the finishing ability and if that is a concern for him. However, the Minerva boss also assured that he is expecting the goal drought to come to an end against Mohun Bagan. “You will definitely find some scoring attempts from the team.”
The I-League newcomers have had a busy transfer window where they have secured some heavy firepower in Joel Sunday and Loveday Enyinnaya for their first venture in the I-League this season.
Minerva have suffered a blow as first choice keeper Ravi Kumar is injured and will be unavailable against Bagan on Tuesday. However, Singh did not shed any light on Kumar’s injury but expressed confidence in his other options in that department.
“We have two goalkeepers who are as good as Ravi,” said the former Pailan Arrows Assistant Coach when asked about who might be replacing the injured Kumar against the Mariners. Previously in the day, Singh had revealed the names of Kamaljit Singh and Arshaeep Singh as the candidates, one of whom will be replacing the injured shot-stopper in their third match of the season.
Minerva Punjab conceded a last-minute goal against Aizawl FC in their previous match which they lost 1-0. When asked about the team’s morale following their last I-League fixture Singh assured that his team is fine. “That can happen to any team. East Bengal also conceded a last minute goal. Even Aizawl also conceded a last minute goal against East Bengal.”
Minerva has played their first two games away from home and failed to win both. Considering the fact, Singh was asked about his feelings towards his team’s fixtures in the current edition of the I-League when he replied, “It is a challenge for us.”
