After their victory against Sevilla, Ernesto Valverde and his men went on top of the table, albeit with an injury to talismanic skipper Lionel Messi. Meanwhile, Real Madrid fell to a 1-2 defeat against Levante, at the Bernabeu.
This fixture has a different atmosphere in Spain, with both the clubs' having a rich history, and ideological clashes amongst them. It is high time that Julen Lopetegui pulls up his socks and finds a winning formula, otherwise, he could face the boot before the winter transfer window. Although, the exclusion of Messi from their upcoming match, means that Real Madrid will have it a little bit easier against Barca. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo seems to have hurt the capital club in terms of quality, but the roles of Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, and Marcelo cannot be undermined.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup runner-ups have been in contrasting forms this season. Rakitic has continued his fine form from to Russia, with some beautiful displays for Barcelona. Meanwhile, Modric has been in a topsy-turvy phase since the World Cup, with interests from Inter Milan high on his heels. Both of them have faced each other at eight Clasicos, with the former Sevilla man winning four, the Vatreni skipper winning two, and two draws.
This highly anticipated derby is an oasis of goals. The last goalless match was in 2002 at the Camp Nou. Since then, 152 goals in 46 encounters. One interesting fact to note, is that Julen Lopetegui was on the books of both the outfits as a goalkeeper but never took part in a Clasico. The Catalonian outfit are currently flying high and a win against Los Blancos could be another laurel in an impressive season.
