The Argentine magician is widely considered the best player in the world.
Lionel Messi - The name needs no further introduction in today's world whether you are a football fan or not. The boy from Rosario, Argentina has become a household name because of his skills with the ball and unparalleled goal scoring abilities. Often considered the best player in the world and widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time (though Cristiano might have something to say about that), Messi has etched his name in bold words across football history. The man's achievements definitely precede itself and he keeps on making new records every other game. At Khel Now, we look at five of the best records held by Lionel Messi, which would be hard to surpass for anybody. [KH_ADWORDS type="4" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS]5. Five goals in a game for club and country
Messi scored five goals in a Champions League second leg game against Bayer Leverkusen. Courtesy of the five goals from the Argentine, Barcelona humiliated Bayer Leverkusen 7-1 at Camp Nou and 10-2 on aggregate in the tie. It was the first time ever a player scored five times in a Champions League game. Messi then repeated the feat in June 2022. But this time in Argentinean colours. The 2014 Golden Ball winner scored all five goals in Argentina's 5-0 win over Estonia. By doing so, he became the first player ever to score five for club and country. 4. The highest number of goals in La Liga Lionel Messi has a record of 433 goals in LaLiga in over 471 appearances for the club. The lifelong Barca man has an outstanding goal scoring record of 0.92 per match. He is over 100 goals ahead of his closest competitor Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 311 goals and now with Ronaldo having left La Liga for Serie A, there is no present threat to his record and I daresay from the future players as well.3. Most consecutive goals scored in League matches
Messi scored an incredible 33 goals in 21 consecutive league games in the 2012-13 La Liga season. His goalscoring run started in November 2012 and ended when he failed to score against Atletico on the final matchday of the season. He scored against every team in the league and failed to score in only four league games during that period. The second-best record in Europe's top five leagues belongs to Gerd Mueller who scored 22 goals in 16 consecutive games for Bayern Munich in 1969-70 season.2. Most assists in football history
Apart from being a prolific goalscorer, Messi is a versatile playmaker as well. He holds the record for most assists in football history. With an all-time record of 166 assists in LaLiga and 13 in Conmebol's Copa America, he has made over 275 official assists for both club and country. [KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News | Lionel Messi | ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]1. Most number of Ballon d' Or wins and the youngest player to win four consecutively
With a total of seven Ballon d'Or titles, Leo Messi holds the distinction of most Ballon d'Or wins by any footballer, followed closely again by his arch-nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo who has five. But what stands out again here is the fact that he was the youngest to win four consecutively from 2009 till 2012. He was only 25 years, six months and 15 days old when he lifted his fourth Ballon d'Or title. Knowing how competitive the game is becoming every passing year with more and more players laying a claim for possible candidature, it is unlikely that Messi's record will ever be touched.
