Mohammedan Sporting Club have made the biggest move in the Indian transfer market so far, with the acquisition of recently concluded I-League’s top scorer Aser Pierrick Dipanda for the upcoming season.
The 28-year-old, who joined Lajong from DSK Shivajians ahead of 2016/17 I-League, did not only finish as league’s top scorer with 11 goals in 17 matches but also adjudged as the best striker of the season.
Mohammedan Sporting Club had been trying to rope in the Cameroonian frontman for past couple of months, and Mohammedan Sporting Club General Secretary Ghazal uz Zafar, Team Manager Belal Ahmed Khan and Chairman of Technical Committee Dipendu Biswas even travelled to Shillong during the I-League finale between Shillong Lajong FC and Aizawl FC to materialise the deal.
Zafar talking about the new signing, said: “We are happy to have signed a player of Dipanda’s stature. He is a proven talent and he has plenty of top level experience. I am confident that he will be an asset to the squad in the upcoming season. I wish him all the best of luck for the season.”
Khan said, “We are delighted to have Dipanda on-board. He is an incredibly talented player who has valuable experience of playing for some of the top clubs in India.We needed someone of his calibre in upfront.”
Dipanda spent the majority of his career from 2008 to 2014 playing in Spain with Valencia B, La Roda, Olímpic de Xàtiva and UD Alzira.
He then moved to India and joined DSK Shivajians in the I-League 2015-16 season where he scored seven goals for the Pune-based club in I-League.
